Yeah that music had such a distinct sound. Nintendo really do have nostalgia on their side with their video games. However, if nostalgia makes you love something (regardless of whether it's crap or not) isn't that a good thing ?Internet Kraken said:I get nostalgic whenever I hear music from an old video game. That brings back many memories. Memories of both fun and frustration. It's a very distinct tune, so whenever I hear I immediately think of Super Mario 64 and the time I spent on that game. And once I start recalling nostalgic memories, it's hard for me to stop. Nostalgia can be very powerful. However because it is so powerful, it can cloud one's judgments. I believe everyone who says that "games used to be better" is wallowing in the memories of a time long gone. Nostalgia makes something seem much more favorable than it actually was. Hence why I have mixed feelings about nostalgia; It always involves good memories, but soemtimes it makes people say foolish things, me included.
I mean I believe my love of the Pikmin franchise is almost completley because of nostalgia. It's hard for me to see the flaws in those games, and even when I do I just ignore them because of nostalgia's ability to have us focus on the good aspects of our memories rather than the bad ones.
It's both a good and bad thing. Remembering only the good bits means that you are only left with pleasant memories. Because of this one can mistakenly think that they only have good memories because the games were nearly flawless. So when they compare old games to new games, they think that the old games are better as they have forgotten about their negative qualities. Basically, nostalgia is bad when you let it heavily influence your opinions.Continuum said:Yeah that music had such a distinct sound.
