Ok guys, we're all gamers and i'm gonna assume a few of you are PC'ers like me.

Currently we've got Fermi vs Cypress (NV and ATI respectively) in terms of graphics cards.

What are your thought's, preferences and views on these cards?

Now i've seen discussions like this on other sites turn ugly but i can only assume you lot are better than that :)

So discuss!

As it stands now, if you're using Windows and you're going to be gaming/writing and not be doing anything else a Cypress core would be best.

For programming/scientific calculations and Linux use, use Nvidia.

This thread probably won't end well.

An-yway, I got an ati 5870 atm, nice card, good performance though a bit pricey.

ATI is the better manufacturer at the moment imo, has a nice range of cards, the performance crown with the 5970 and offers the best value-for-money cards compared to nvidia.

I have a 5870, but it was as much a question of availability as anything. Couldn't get my hands on a GTX-480 when I wanted it so I got a 5870 instead. I'm not disappointed at all, its a great card.

However it hardly will make me pledge unwavering allegiance to ATI, if the next gen is dominated by Nvidia I know what I'm going to switch to.

Don't do VS threads... Especially not ones like these, they are high-risk flamebait.

I forsee doom on this thread.

I play the "Indecisive, neutral bastard" card and say they're both good for their own reasons, but seen as how that's not really what I think, I'm not going to strain myself to think of reasons on how that's the truth.

This is why i said i know we all can say our views peacefully! :)

I personally was a Nvidia man right up to the GTX 280. When Fermi came out and all the reviews said that they were shockingly disappointing, i went to ATI and got myself a 5970. I was genuinly scared to death because i had never done ATI before but then i saw it blow through Bad Company 2 at 1080, full settings at 100 FPS and was like :/ yeah probably should have done this sooner!

ATI are definately the company to go for at the minute. Financially, they make better sense, its so incredibly hard to justify getting a GTX-400 series cards if you look at the price/performance angle which is what most of us do look at.

However, as Boris previously mentioned, Fermi will blow Cypress out of the water when it comes to FP64 computations in the big universities and research institutions that require huge computational power. That essentially was what NV designed it for.

But when it comes to us gamers, Fermi needs to be put on 28nm and given huge clock boosts and a reasonable price before the consumer market can truly put it against ATI.

I've only ever used Nvidia so I'm going to say I like them better, also I have never had a problem with them before.

Personally, Nvidia. Just because I know more about them and which ones are good.

Nvidia, because I like the name. It's a 8400gs, so it runs like an aging donkey with memory loss, but it gets the Job done.

Sometimes.

Calumon: We don't know alot about computers. :p

Yeah, i can relate, i was like that.

But then when i made the leap of faith over to ATI and saw how good they were, i now hold both companies in equal respect.

My decision of card comes from what the best one is at the minute, what will get me the most for my money. While some will stick with one or the other as it is their comfort zone, i can't say i agree with these people who stick with a company out of some loyal allegiance they hold, thats a bit wierd.

i can comfortably say that in this situation, I'm a fanboy. not of nvidia or ati, but of my wallet. i will always pick whichever one gives me the best performance without making my wallet too thin or making me feel ripped off.

Thats fair enough, i'm the first one to say there's nothing wrong with either company and as Revelo says, so long as your games get played there's really nothing to worry about.

Versus threads are bad but ATI is miles above Nvidia at the moment with the 5970.

I normally stick to ATI regardless because I find their cards may not always run things as fast as Nvidia but they do run things stabler.

Example: Nvidia runs a game at 80+ fps but that sometimes dips down to 40- in very hectic situations but an ATI card of equal quality to Nvidia's will run it at 60 and keep it there.[footnote]In my experience, anyway.[/footnote]

From the reviews (Anandtech, Tom's Hardware, and Xbitlabs) I've read, that doesn't seem to be the case.
