An age-old question, perhaps; but it's always good to hear the thought provoking input of those who don't immediately slam the tonal change in MM and write it off as a lesser game. OoT was brilliant, and it's fair to like it better, but it doesn't make MM a bad game by any stretch.
So, which did you like better and why?
The crazy-long paragraph below is just my personal opinion, you are not required to read it. I just thought it would be prudent to give some justification to my choice since I'm demanding it from others.
Personally, I preferred MM. Why? Because no game has ever elicited so many raw emotions from me. There were points in the game where I was so taken in by all of the game's intricacies that I forgot I was playing a game. I found myself becoming attached to even minor characters because they were flawed in such a realistic way, and their interactions with one another weren't as cartoonish or contrived as most video game characters. Everyone, even the villains, had an emotional complexity that I had never seen in a video game before. I was nothing short of awestruck by the conclusion of the Kafei and Anju sub-story; it was the saddest and most beautiful thing I've ever seen in a game. There were concepts present that were far darker, more intriguing, and more mature than most M-rated games on the market and to be able to weave them subtly into an E-rated is a sign of Nintendo's (and Eiji Aonuma's) genius, as far as I'm concerned. It was a mix of dark, sad, tragic stories and I was compelled, almost obsessively, to see every single one of them through to their conclusions. No other game has done that to me. I can say without shame that I fucking ADORE MM, if it's not already obvious.
MM sits at position numero uno of "My Favorite Games of all Time"
