Yeah, so developer Just Add Water is doing a remake of Stranger's Wrath. Remember that game? It was awesome. But uh... The only console announced for it so far is PS3. And, the originalStranger's Wrath was... An Xbox exclusive.

What?!

I am happy for a remake, but unhappy it might not be coming to my console of choice. Hmph.

What do you think about this, Escapist? Excited? Pissed off? Uninterested?

EDIT: Turns out, it will be PSN exclusive. They are also re-mastering the dialogue and throwing in Move support. Whoop-de-fucking-doo.

Weird. It could be the licensing deal on Stranger's Wrath lapsed, and the developers went back to the original Oddworld console. PSN has all the other games.

But, it still is weird.

Edit: I suppose I am... indifferent. I liked the original puzzle aspect of Oddworld. I wasn't nuts about the FPS one.

Well, it's a nice treat for us who couldn't enjoy it five years ago on the PlayStation.

i'd imagine it will be a download game and then i'd be very surprised if it didn't come out for both systems

But the ammo was alive!

OT:

Finally, I can play this. Stranger's Wrath isn't backwards compatible...

Yes, well, I'd probably play it now. When it first came out, I was prejudiced against FPS games. You can blame Half Life for that.

Sierra, who owned Half Life, decided to stop making point and click games, which I love, and said they were switching to FPS games. So I was angry at FPS games for a while.

I might give this game another try, now that I am an FPS convert.

I know for a fact that I played at least the first 2 on PC, so while they weren't on any CONSOLES other than Playstation, they're not really exclusives.

Aside from that, I'm curious, but not overly excited. It did sound like fun, and hte Oddworld setting is an interesting one (If a little odd.... funny that...)

Actually, the original was a Playstation 1 exclusive, so was the second. The 3rd and 4th were Gameboy Exclusives, the 5th was an Xbox Exclusive, the 6th was a GBA exclusive, and the 7th was an Xbox Exclusive. Looks like this series gets around.
I mean the original Stranger's Wrath. I changed it in OP to avoid confusion...

I'm glad that i'll be able to play this again but i kind of wish the Oddworld guys would release a new title.

I'd love a new 2D Oddworld game, they were great. Kind of like 2D survival horror.

Seems like the primary reason that this news Oddworld will be PS3 is because it's not being developed by the real Oddworld developers, Oddworld Inhabitants. Just Add Water, the porting dev studio, has only one other game to their credit, as listed on their webpage: Gravity Crash for PS3.

Though they do list that they have development licenses for all other major gaming systems out right now (PSP, DS, Wii, 360), it seems like their favored system (or maybe the only one they know how to code for...) is PS3.

Yeah, I noticed while I was lookin it up that that's probably what you meant =) Strange how many platforms this games jumped around on. Sony to Nintendo to MS to Nintendo to MS back to Sony? Wierd.
It was never on the Nintendo was it? All I know it was on Sony for the first two games, and then for the last two games it was just on the xbox.

Edit: Also, I read on IGN that Just Add Water has team up with Oddworld people to make multiple platforms games.

Oddworld: Adventures (1998) Gameboy
Oddworld: Adventures 2 (2000) Gameboy Color
Oddworld: Munch'd Oddysee (2003) Gameboy Advance
Ah ok. I never heard of those titles or just forgot about them.

Fuck yeah!

Glad I'll be able to finally play it on a next-gen console. What with MS quietly abandoning backwards compatibility while a bunch of fantastic games still aren't backwards compatible. Fucking Microsoft...
