A while back, one of the bosses here let us know he was thinking about getting a puppy.
This would mean the pup would be here in the office with us during the day, as quite rightly, the boss wouldn't want to get one then leave it at home.
We're a small company with a set of interconnecting offices, so he wanted our input. Most of us were quite happy about the idea, with the exception of the second boss. He hates dogs, and most pets in general.

The idea has been mentioned around the office since this first discussion, with the second boss making comments about him staying at home if the pup is coming in, or wanting to kick the puppy, or BBQ him, or linking us videos of turtles biting dogs' balls. Not too sure how much of this was a joke (I know some of it is), as he jokes about almost everything anyways. He also says he is allergic, but this has been disputed by other members of staff. I'm not going to comment further on that though.. that's a whole other topic. He also dislikes the type of dog that was wanted - Staffordshire Bull Terriers, as he thinks they're "chav" dogs used for fighting, and reckons it's only a matter of time before such a dog would turn vicious.

This week, the boss found a puppy he liked (a Staffy). Today was his first day in the office, and he's been fairly well received by most of us, except the second boss, who really isn't happy. While the first boss is in the office, he's responsible for cleanups and all, though some of us have volunteered to 'babysit' when he's away for meetings or whatnot. There's been no pressure at all on that front; he only wants us to offer if we genuinely want to help out, and for my part, I don't mind so long as pup doesn't eat my house :3

The problems come in now though..
Puppy (yet to be named) has made two, no, now three messes in the office so far, which isn't helping, I think, and I wonder how long it will be before the staff generally get annoyed with smells and so on. It really did stink..
The bigger issue though, is that the second boss says he really doesn't want the pup here, and that he's making him feel ill, etc. I feel bad for him, but don't know what discussions he had with the other boss about it, beyond comments in front of the whole office, which may have been taken as jokes..
The pup obviously can't stay at home, because he would be alone all day. I think, but I'm not sure, that the first boss is going to ignore the second boss and keep the puppy here anyway, at least while he needs to be watched 24/7. Long term though, I really don't know..

Has anybody else had one, and did it work out?
Do you think having a pup in an office is a good, or a bad idea?

My teacher was allowed to have her bunny in our math classroom all day last term. It was a lot of fun.

If the dog is causing problems, I'd say that he shouldn't be there.

A dog in the workplace would probably lower productivity as far as I'm concerned because I would be probably playing with the beast all day.

If its causing serious trouble to the office, then it shouldn't really be there...

Other pets my work better - a cat (litter trained!), maybe?

a dog is a bit too much of a social creature for an office.
especially since it's a pup.
