Here is the only thread to be allowed to discuss the new forum rules.

FAQ:
Q: QQ

A: We know.

Q: No really. QQ! I'm crying and complaining! Get it? Two Q's look like crying eyes?!

A: Yes, we get it.

Q: Why do we need new rules?

A: Because the forums had been slowly becoming a less inviting place to be. The new rules are in place to provide tools to the mods to allow them to get rid of the jerks and keep you nice people!

Q: What about the posts made BEFORE the new rules went live?

A: Those posts will be judged under the old Posting Guidelines. You will not be judged under the new rules until you have posted after the new rules went live.

Sooo, this is the answer to my question.

Alright. About what I expected.

I hope you make the rules a little more streamlined and I hope this means we'll do away with open hostility on here.

Cool.

THANK YOU! I'm glad I wasn't the only one noticing all this negativity and rudeness all over the forums, and I'm glad its being appropriately dealt with.

I've always abided by the golden rule of forums, handed down (according to Penny Arcade) by Jesus Christ Himself:

"Don't be a dick."

Everything else is just details.

Making fun of people who weren't satisfied doesn't seem to be in particularly good taste.

They seem a bit... vague & subjective.
Is your post dedicated to making someone else feel like crap?

Then you're being a jerk. You'll know it when you see it.

More steps to keep the riffraff out? I approve.

I, myself, am pretty sure that at some point, I probably deserved a little taste of banhammer, probably for low content or something. I don't know. I have, of course, evaded the hammer of truth so far.

Looking forward to not being a jerk.

Yeah, I noticed that happening and asked tech to fix it.

Great...thread merging people do you know what it is?(prob not since you get temp and prem bans mixed up :p)

On one hand I do not think the staff here can handle humor or descent well(snarky isnot allowed yet you have the most sanriest reviewer of game's'(well he only really reviews shooters...... :p) on the web plus bob...sheesh) but then again half the bans are generally petty user in fighting.

I tend to keep to the topic at hand and not single out anyone but rather deal with the subject at hand as close to the topic at hand as I can.

Still no matter how you change the rules of combat you will need temp bans to tell people you've crossed the lines. 3 day, if in 30 days after it goes to 10 day, if in 30 days after it goes to 60 day if in 30 days after it goes to premmenant .

Oh well I hope it helps but I doubt it will you either have a lose forum or an overly restricted one it seems.

Or maybe he's just pointing out what he believes to be a flaw in the rules, in other words constructive criticism.

To be the first to quote the new guidelines:

Constructive criticism is welcomed; negativity for its own sake is not.
That's called humor and can be constructive in its own ways.

I'm glad to see this, the new rules are a lot more clear cut than they were before and the forums were certainly becoming more hostile. Good job guys!

1. Don't Be a Jerk
This is a very good rule and noone should have problems following it.

2.Have Respect for Others
See number one.

3.Have Respect for the Site and its Content
This is where I'm a bit more uncertain. I may just be dense but I'd like to ask a follow up question, if I may. Say a new series is launched and I don't like it. Would it count as negativity were I to make a post explaining why I don't? I realise that just saying it sucks doesn't cut it. But an actual explanation as to why it doesn't tickle my fancy would be alright?
The same goes with comments to an article. It's still alright to take issue with the author (following the above rules) if I feel that I have something worth contributing to the issue at hand?

4.Put Some Effort Into Your Communication
This is probably my favourite rule.

5.Use Our Forums Appropriately
Should be obvious.

I know its kinda covered in the, "Put effort into your posts" idea, but I'd appreciate yall specifying that repeating the same sentiment or idea is not desired. Especially in the advice forum 'n what-not, you know? I get a bit concerned when a thread follows this formula:
"Question/comment"
"Idea 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5!"
"Idea 2, 3, and 4!"
"Idea 6!"
"Idea 2, 5, and 3!"

It might be a personal thing, but I try to post on the philosophy of, "If what I wanted to say has already been said in the thread, I shouldn't post."

Well, yes, its vague, but people for the most part should have an idea of what not to post. I generally trust their judgement, and the Escapist having the rules be more subjective leaves fewer people trying to justify being inappropriate through loopholes.
