They've gone with the most obvious and plated out angle possible, but I still think people who have never heard of the anime might still enjoy it.
..but the japanese cartoon in question is itself a cyberpunk genre classic. So I'm not really sure why that distinction needs to be made? I mean, for a lot of people, Ghost in the Shell was their first exposure to cyberpunk in their younger days.pookie101 said:looks fun and im always up for more cyberpunk even if its based on a japanese cartoon
Well considering the major is an emotionless robot, I think ScarJo is a pretty apt choice to portray her.Silentpony said:Just goes to show you. Never trust a movie with Scarlett Johansson as the lead. She's not charismatic, or talented or anything other than a pretty face and a stuffed butt.
She works as Black Widow because Black Widow isn't a character. She's a plot device to deliver intel, gadgets or get the real heroes out of sticky situations with a smirk, hip thrusting, a second smirk and a shrug.
And now finally we can get to the 3rd act climax.
I wasn't being literal, I know she has a human brain in there. But sorry, I disagree, I've seen the original movie and at least the Laughing Man series of GitS, and she was pretty fucking emotionless for 99% of her screen time.Ezekiel said:She's not a robot. The ghost in her shell is human, and the prosthetic body is quite capable of expression. She only starts acting robotic after the Pupper Master begins to infiltrate her cyberbrain.Happyninja42 said:Well considering the major is an emotionless robot, I think ScarJo is a pretty apt choice to portray her.Silentpony said:Just goes to show you. I got more of a Blade Runner vibe myself, but "dystopian high-tech city sprawl" is kind of ubiquitous at this point for cyberpunk. xDMrCalavera said:My reaction? It was a trailer. That's all. It didn't blew me off, it didn't suck either.
Can't really tell how much of that "I've lost my original body, the existential pain" angle will be utilized in movie from it, so i'm witholding my judgment. I like the aesthetics though.
And speaking about the looks: Do these shots of the city from above really remind anyone else of AKIRA? Or maybe my memories of the original animated movie are fuzzy, and it looked somewhat closer to that there, as opposed to the city in SAC.
