I believe the game I'm thinking of was on the PC, though it may have been on the play station but i doubt it. It it you where some wizard type (Or really some really weird floating creature), you worked for the gods of the land, you controlled a squad of units that in order to make more of them you had to collect the souls of the fallen units. The goal was to beat back the opposing wizard in order to destroy their home base. the game took place in third person. Also what god you worked for determined what spells you would have access too.
