As technology marches onward with enough resolution to blind you, the older gaming consoles are being left behind

One thing many people don't realize before investing in a high definition flat screen TV is the fact that old game consoles, such as the SNES, N64, Saturn and Dreamcast will not display properly on them, due to not being upscaled to the proper resolution. The result is noticeably distorted graphics. Most people's solution to this seems to be "just emulate", but that's a considerably difference experience.

As all TVs eventually fail, the practice of keeping a CRT tv for older games is becoming increasingly problematic, as eventually it'll cause one to look in second-hand shops or garage sales in hopes of finding something that can properly display their old games.

Many of the old SNES and PS1 games you would want to play are available on Virtual Console/PSN or re-released on handhelds. No need to keep a bulky, inferior tv around just for those games.

I have 2 of them here and one has a manufacture date of March 1989. It is dying though and it will be replaced by an HDTV.

They play fine for me. In fact I'd say my Saturn looks brilliant on my 24" LED TV.

I've got a little portable tv for just that purpose. My main set wont play nicely with my Mega Drive and it's not the same on an emulator, even with a controller.
