So, back in 2004ish I made a new server. It was beautiful in it's time. Dual socket, AMD 285's with 4 GB of RAM on a Thunder K8WE (S2895), 12 500GB drives across 2 PCI-X buses making up a (soft) RAID 6 (plus a spare), and 4 Gb NIC's run into a single trunk. It was to be my home media/'anything I wanted' server. For some reason motherboards in my house tend to die so I wanted to make a server that was basically bullet proof.

4 Years later the motherboard flaked out. Same issue as 3 others, it would no longer run stable with cards in more then one PC(-X) slot. I still haven't figured this one out, but it doesn't matter much now.

A few months back I replaced it with a new lower power server. Right now I have the drives up on a barrowed motherboard to transfer the data to the new server.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with the old hardware. Any ideas?

how much hardware do you have? you could try a spot of urban mining...

IF YOU HAVE A FUME CUPBOARD AND KNOW HOW TO HANDLE STRONG CHEMICALS SAFELY. /disclaimer

with enough circuit board, you could recover about $100 worth of gold...
