I quite prefer older games when it comes to multiplayer. For instance I occasionally load up the Tastyspleen server on Quake 2, my first online game, to get my arse kicked. What I find much more fun is Unreal Tournament '99, which I actually play quite frequently.

On the console front, I could say I play Timesplitters, but that doesn't really work in this instance as I don't really play that with friends anymore. A more interesting example is that I introduced my cousin to the Super Nintendo a month back during the holiday, and we ended up playing more Street Fighter 2 and Mario Kart than Modern Warfare 2. Also, Metal Slug still owns.

So what's the oldest game you still play with friends or strangers?

Warcraft 3, and I will continue until Warcraft 4 is made, unlikely as that may be.

Probably TF2, don't really play online anything else...I'll occasionally play Brawl with friends, and if my GC still worked I would play Melee and Naruto:Clash of Ninja 2 with my friends

I used to play UT99 until like, 2005 or 6-ish. There was this sniper-only CTF server that had just user made maps. I must have spent so long on there. There were the good old days.

Starcraft is 98, UT'99, uh, Doom 2 over lan last year but it was a source ports, not the original, like when I played Duke 3D over lan a couple months ago.

BF1942...

But the only one I play on a regular basis is Age of Empires 3, lol.

Counter strike 1.6 and Halo PC are the oldest multiplayer games I still play. And by god they are still fun, sometime far more fun than some of todays multiplayer which at times feels like it has just lost something. I just get this souless feeling from some MP games these days that just drives me back to the oldies. So many CS and Halo hours clocked to remeber...I still hate that fucking AWP though.

Online: Quake, the ultimate mod game. Then DoD, then CS Source and Halo Pc.

Offline: Lylat Wars and Perfect Dark, thirteen years now and no one has managed a better space shooter than Lylat Wars, frigging pathetic.

Wolfenstien: Enemy Territory

I think that was one of the easiest games to get into a server and enjoy. You didn't have to set up douchebag keys and frig around for 30 mins before actually getting on a server and finding out its on the other side of the globe, thus making it unplayable... man I hate online when I think about it >.<
