First off, let me start by saying this is the first thread I've started on these forums:) and that I have PC Gamer background but also bought an XBOX360 2-3 years ago. What is it about? You know that competitive jerk in your favorite multiplayer online game. That's me. I just can't help it. The second things turn competitive It's like my brain rewires and I have to be the best, the winner. First I become aggressive and obnoxious, second in my attempt to become among the best (most recently trying to get in the top 1000 of BFBC2 and getting decently close) I become entirely absorbed in the game of choice.

I've found a good way to stop the cycle. I think to myself "I started this to have some fun. And do I get something tangible for putting all the needed time in?". As many of you know the answer is always "No". So that does it. And now I'm officially over BFBC2 and will probably stop even logging in, as I can't take how I start lagging behind others (Same happened with WoW, DotA, and many others)

Only in the last 2 years did I discover a totally different way to enjoy games, that allows me to achieve a much better and balanced lifestyle. Playing trough the single player content. It's extremely enjoyable to witness the amazing stories and gaming mechanics without that nagging feeling that you're losing time not being the best. The award structure of these games is different. They award you for enjoying yourself, not for going trough the motions. A weird exception to the rule is L4D which I consider "hardcore" incompatible. People there a much more chilled and it's a lot more about having fun.

Has any of you had similar problems? And how do you resolve them? I hope that talking about this will make it easier to go trough :)

I ignore everyone that's in the server i'm in unless they directly talk to me or if an enemy is approaching i warn the team other than that you don't hear a word out of me.

I am generally quite laid back whilst gaming. The exception is when faced with

A: Rogues in WoW PVP

B: MW2

I don't tend to be competitive, but the sound of me often shouting at Mister I'm So Skilful Rogue to reroll and pick a class based around skill or that guy managing to combine all three of the things I hate about MW2 into one (One Man Army for infinite noobtubes, camping and commando - this happens fairly often now) is fairly common.
