I recently replaced the motherboard, cpu, and RAM in my computer, and, after everything was finished, I plugged everything in, turned it on, and it started turning on and off autonomously.

Can anyone tell me how I could've gone wrong?, specs below:

CPU: Intel i5-6600
RAM: 16 gb DDR4
Mobo: Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI
GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 6gb

Check all the cables and connectors first.
It could be RAM so try changing slots and removing each RAM module to see if one of them is faulty or if the slot is faulty.
It could be the CPU so check if it's installed properly. Faulty CPU is an extremely rare occurrence. You have to be insanely unlucky to get a faulty CPU.
It could be the power or reset connector on the motherboard. I once had an issue where my reset button on the case was faulty and it was stuck which caused the PC to restart over and over again until I unplugged it.

And like 008Zulu said, it could also be the PSU.

Unplug everything but the motherboard and CPU and see if it will at least POST (power-on self test). If it does, carefully plug in each component one at a time and see if it starts then.

Also make sure that the motherboard is properly screwed in. I've had a computer fail to start because I'd improperly mounted the motherboard and it was causing some kind of short.

Agree with this, motherboard shorting on the case or something like that - I did it myself when I first built a PC.

A short will do that.
Where do you think the short happened?, did I waste six hours of my day? (a lit of it trying to get the 212 evo cooler to stay on).

I'm not sure, I just know that when I had similar problems when I first put a PC together and it was because I hadn't used proper mounting points - the motherboard was in contact with the case where it shouldn't have been. It was a long time ago and I'm fairly hazy, but if that is the case I'm sure someone here a bit more clued-up than me can help.

Do you have another power supply you can test with? It doesn't have to be strong enough to support the system, just to see if it makes it to post.

What do you mean you had trouble getting it to stay on? Like do you mean you had trouble keeping it working, or you had trouble mounting it?

I have a same cooler btw.

The latter, the thing that holds the cooler on the board kept misaligning until my dad could improvise a way to align it.

Nope, the only other PSU I have was the piece of crap I replaced with the current one.

How long is the computer on before it restarts?

Is it possible that the cpu cooler isn't mounted properly, causing the CPU to overheat and the computer to turn off?

Your dad shouldn't have had to "improvise" a way to hold the CPU cooler in place. I know, I have that same cooler, and I can make a pretty good guess at what your problem was when you were installing it. Suffice to say it works as intended but installing can be a bit fiddly (there's a little nub that has to align with the gear looking things when you're adjusting the holder dealy to fit the mounting points).

What RAM speed do you have? Do you have 2 8Gb chips?

If you have 'fast' RAM, and multiple chips, you may need to set the speed on the motherboard first.

Do this by placing a single chip in slot 1, booting up and setting the RAM speed in the BIOS.

Still sounds like a short to me, like maybe the motherboard is in direct contact with the case in a place that it shouldn't be - maybe you need motherboard standoffs? That might also explain your problem with mounting the cooler - like maybe you didn't have enough space under the motherboard for the underside part of the cooler (assuming it has one; I have the same cooler I think, and it did).

So I was screwed from the start?, did I waste six hours of my life the other day installing a broken part?
