So I have been puttering around on the escapist for a little while now and have watched quite a few videos. Of all of the creators of all of the shows on this site Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw intrigues me the most. He got me thinking, can one man be such a complete and utter misanthrope and still live a functional, productive life? Is Ben Croshaw like this in real life or is his "Yahtzee" persona used only for situations like this? Was Rebecca Mayes correct in her assertion that he is a misogynist pig or is his hate more generalized then that? So I turn it to you gentle readers, who is the man behind the moniker?

No, Yahtzee isn't like how he is when he reviews games. When you read reviews and hear him on podcasts and stuff he comes off *shock horror* quite normal.
are you sure I've heard plenty of podcasts where he sounds similar to himself on Zero Punctuation... case in point... though it is sort of weird hearing him play off of other people...

I always try to get my 1's though 6's first, in order to get the bonus points. Unless, of course, I roll five of a kind, then I-

Wait. You guys are talking about something different, aren't you?

I always thought it was a (brilliant) character, and i'd like to hope he's normal in real life.

I don't know why Rebecca Mayes didn't understand that. It's like getting offended at the actor in a play because you don't like thier character.

It's character most likely, alot of reviewers do that, another case would be The Angry Video Game Nerd, just a character to bring added humor to a review.

He doesn't review games, he critiques them.

OT: He's not actually serious you know. He just finds flaws in games and blows them out of proportion in a humorous manner.

I think he vents in his reviews. Either that or he was once a quiet man who eventually just snapped and turned into a sophisticated mass murderer. You know, like the kind of guy who will murder a cash registrar for mocking him for what he is purchasing, then he calmly bids him farewell while drinking wine and humming Mozart.

Yahtzee seems like a pretty normal dude outside his reviews. The angry guy in his episodes is just a character, and a damn good one.

I think he is a really intelligent person whose job is to find a blemish in a game, and then throw dirt and sewage on it.
Im pretty sure he is cynical to an extent irl though.

Read his Extra Punctuation's, he make some very well written and thought out points.

I always thought he was exaggerating.

[sub]And Graham Stark is by far the best...[/sub]
Most definitely. Well, the whole LRR crew is amazing.

Yeah, I just think he's putting it on. Has anyone met him? At The Mana Bar, or something?
I would be interested to hear from them.

He's built a career around being a witty, racist, sexist, hateful basher of games for his videos.

In real life he has friends, started a bar, wrote a book, travelled and I'm sure would be a decent person if you met him on the street.

He sounds like a cynical asshole with a quick sense of humour. I see nothing wrong with that, in fact I would be disappointed if I met him in person and he wasn't rather short with me. I don't imagine him being a wonderful person if you get to know him, some people just don't really like people.

hes nothing like you described here. and i dont know where you got the idea of him being misogynist... (well maybe i do) but its all in good humor. people take things way too literally these days. its just the style he has in reviewing games. lighten up (Y)

That's like asking if AVGN is always yelling and getting pissed off at trivial things IRL.

He strikes me as a bit pessimistic, but otherwise normal. Granted I've not much experience, and zero "real life" experience of the man.
