One large game preordered, help me decide the next?

So Destiny 2 is officially ordered, took me a few weeks to buckle down and nab it but a couple of people in my gaming community will be playing it so it'll be nice to do some cooperative multiplayer again. I like iron sight shooting but I don't like the twitchiness of Titanfall 2 or any Call of Duty, and none of those have any real cooperative modes (Except zombies, I guess?)

Next on my list is both Shadow of War and Assassin's Creed.

I liked Shadow of Mordor but after a full playthrough and maybe half of two others, the game got a tad too easy somehow. Through a combination of knowing orcs detection ranges, knowing exactly which upgrades to get first, and powerleveling myself through those rather simple power struggles, I'm never really able to take advantage of the cool Nemesis system again, unless I just straight up let myself die. Which isn't as interesting.
Hopefully the sequel will bring new challenges to overcome.

I feel like AC will be the problem child in these forums, as Ubisoft takes a lot of shit. I however, am an AC fangirl. I've enjoyed almost every game, the only exception is AC3 which I never beat. I even liked Unity, and it helped that I bought it a few months after release so it had a couple patches by then (And 33% off).
Origins sounds really interesting. I'm a sucker for day/night cycles, the locale is the most interesting since Black Flag (The best AC game in my opinion), but other than that there's not a lot to the current announced gameplay.

I guess in a way my mind is already made up but I want to hear others' input.

Well, if you're going the preorder route, I suppose you could check to see which games have the best preorder bonuses. It's the only reason I can think of to do it in the first place, unless you're ordering from very limited stock.

I'm preordering; not deluxing.

I'm pretty sure these are all going to be fine products anyway. Even if the launches are messy, those usually get fixed within a few months.

I said already. I don't do it for every game, just ones I know that will very likely be a decent product.

Wolfenstein: The New Colossus.

No, seriously. Kill your pre-order for Destiny and put down that money on Wolfenstein instead.

Also, Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. Book your ticket to Oured while you've got the chance, because I'm going to make a point of being first in line once they start selling.

But nah, I'll probably pre-order it when I know my PC can handle it. Didn't play the first, but I'm interested in the second. Also off topic, you missed nothing by not finishing AC3. It was so...bland.

And as for the next pre-order, I'd personally plump for Shadow of War, but I'm burnt out on the AC series and enjoyed Shadow of Mordor. I got Syndicate for about ?20 and I don't think I ever got past the first ten percent of the game. Just doesn't appeal to me any more.

But why? If the game were to be limited copies like say a board game, I'd understand as that's literally the point of preordering something. Preordering video games just results in the store making money on your money via investments/interest.

I couldn't care less about the whole preordering being bad for the industry. I have no problem determining a game's quality prior to playing it. For example, I bought Watch Dogs day 1 and it was the exact game I expected it to be. I guess people didn't watch the full gameplay walkthroughs. I don't even recall the last game I got "burned" on and even then, you can sell it for about $40. Thus, getting burned on a movie at the theater can result in more money down the toilet than a game.

Who still regularly goes to cinemas? Those prices are outrageous. My last movie, which I only went to because the power in my neighborhood blew out, costed ten dollars. That's still less money blown than a forty dollar return on a shitty sixty dollar game. (Or you can buy it on Steam and get it all back.) I don't know what YOU'RE buying when you go to the movies.
Uhh... lots of people still go to the movies. Base cost can easily be $10 like you said, add-in food/drinks and it could easily go to $20 plus even more if bringing/paying for family members. Then, there's theaters with the "4D" experience where the seats move and shit, that's over $20 for a movie there. I personally just go to matinees for $6 with occasionally going in the evening/nights as that's the most common time everyone is usually free. I've probably seen about 5 movies this year so far (which is more than usual), the highlight of the year was seeing John Wick 2 and Lego Batman back-to-back as they both came out the same day. Gaming is a really cheap hobby when you think about it, especially when you sell your games after you beat them. I've only bought Horizon and Prey this year, sold Horizon and still working on Prey. Worried about getting screwed over by some AAA game is the least of my worries, I just don't preorder because it's rather pointless when you can go to Best Buy/Wal-mart/Target/etc on release and there's plenty of copies available. I'd rather not help make some huge company that much more money by having my $5 or whatever for months when they don't need to have my $5.

But that's not the movie. That's like saying a video game costs ten dollars more because you like to consume chips and soda through it. Or like saying a video game costs ten dollars more because you want someone to shake your chair as you're playing. The movie is around ten dollars. No one is forcing you to buy that extra shit.

I don't find movie tickets or gaming cheap, but I don't wanna argue. I don't pre-order either. There's no reason to.
Compared to most hobbies (comics, board games, just Magic, bowling, golf, collecting whatever, the freaking gym, etc.), video gaming is pretty damn inexpensive.

I did not mean for this to turn into a debate about preordering. I get some of the logic against it, but I've learned to accept it. Games cost a lot of money and starting at 60 in this day and age is amazing, but they're all trying to compensate by adding season passes, bonuses, and incentives. Not all of which pan out. So far I've only been burned on Shadow of Mordor's, whose DLC is actually quite lackluster. Mostly just bonus runes and items (Which make you practically unkillable in the early game, assuming you're savvy enough with the mechanics). I didn't like either of the "Expansions" because they're separate from your main file, which doesn't profit off of anything you do.

So typically, I avoid Season Passes. I just don't see how dropping 60 on a preorder is any different from buying a physical copy on day one like my family did before all this digital mess. Yet everyone is all "Don't do it!!"

I made this thread to talk about the choices, not the morality, business, or economics. I just wonder which of the two will give me more entertainment than the other, essentially.

The answer is simple. Don't pre-order. Just buy a day or two after release once the reviews ('official' and user) come out. There's really no downside to buying it a few days after launch. Well, unless you want to play with friends right away from day one. Then look at the reviews that come out on day one and buy it.

I can't help but echo most everyone else in this thread.
Please reconsider your pre-order.

If you promise them money upfront, you say that you will buy their game almost no matter what happens.
The ball is in their court.

You wait until game is officially released. You have the ball and can still give them that money.
If the game truly deserves it.

Enough control has been taken away from gamers almost without opposition.

I don't understand pre-ordering something where scarcity is not an issue. You're just giving them your money now for something will (presumably) deliver later. Why not keep the money in your bank account until the game launches and accrue interest on it yourself, rather than handing it over to someone else so it can sit in their bank account. Not to mention that you're likely to be able to get a better price around launch anyway, once retailers have their stock and start price competing (or through key resellers). Preordering anything other than limited special editions makes no sense.

Heck even pre-ordering limited special editions usually makes no sense. As the 'goodies' you get from doing so are usually not worth taking the gamble of the game being worth your money.
