I want you to pick one song, from a band the general public probably doesn't know, and tell us why you really like it.
Ok the lead singer is the founding drummer for System of a Down, and for some reason the song resonates in me whenever I hear it. BTW, the video is agreeably odd and does nothing for the song but it isn't the video that gets me. Something about the bass lines and progressive guitar works give me a nice relaxing feeling while keeping a rock groove. Its a good song to me overall, I know few people who actually know this band (ahh the US, driven by stupidity and herd mentality).

So whats your odd, off the grid song.

Oh, boy. Time for me to show off some La Dispute.

So, this song is just amazing. The guitar goes from soothing to rocking your freaking socks off in about five minutes. It's a combination of spoke-word and scream-clean vocals, let that sink in. The lyrics, oh God how the lyrics are amazing. These guys are so awesome they consider themselves poets over musicians. I still thank my friend for making me listen to this song. It has become my song to listen to, while I write papers.

Dead Can Dance.

They have such a drastic sound, like straight out of the dark ages, and the lead singer sounds as if he's from the Middle East. This strikes me as odd considering that the band started as a duo of white people [http://johnguycollick.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/PerryGerrard.jpg] in Melbourne, Australia.

I think they've broken up by now. They're kinda old. You might have heard of Dead Can Dance, but it's more likely you're familiar with the female vocalist, Lisa Gerrard, who sang on a whole bunch of soundtracks including Gladiator, Constantine, and The Passion of the Christ.

This is probably my favorite track of theirs. It sounds...primal to me. You have to really blast this song to get the full effect, which is why I love to listen to it in my car on long, lonely stretches of highway. Full blast.

JUST one? You're metaphorically killing me here! *re-reads again* Okay, but still... JUST one? *sighs*

With that said, time to post All The Flowers... the Lone Remix, that is...
One of many songs that has been following me ever since getting super obsessed with Adult Swim bumps, to be honest... What looks like nothing more than an updated/extended version of the original turns into something far beyond my own expectations... The use of its overall tempo combined with a new take on the melody of the original song feels me with such ambivalence[footnote]an unintended Bibio album reference[/footnote] that I still can't explain it without divulging into it like it's some kind of college analysis essay... (in which I did do for this song, but that's another story...) It's use of nature sounds throughout the song in conjunction to how the lyrics (or "lack" there of) of the original song are used gives off this sense of deeper meaning to an otherwise "simple remix"...

I'm still tempted to post another song here, though...

A live version of Firehouse song Overnight Sensation.
Not sure how many know this band here, I'm not a huge fan, have listened a few albums and they have some good songs!

can't link so do your own youtubing...
Youtube movies can be linked like this:

inside [ ] you write "Youtube", and when you have a video on in youtube, up in search field (not sure real name) there will be www.youtube.com/watch----, after "watch" in the link there will be a code that starts with, =, take that code and paste it after "Youtube" in the brackets so it will look about like this (without space) [ Youtube=GuTkj76DFy ] and thats the video.

Ask most people if they know who Sigur Ros are, and they'll probably look at you and scratch their heads.

It's all I can think of okay >_>

Steam-Punky Thomas Dolby has been one of my favourite artists for many years, but has never reached the level of public awareness that I think he deserved. Here's one my favourites of his "Living in a suitcase" - a live version. I like it because it has melody, feeling, poetic lyrics and it makes the hairs on my neck stand up.

Overkill is a generally unknown band, in spite of being pioneers of thrash metal as well as having stuck with it through all these years. Proper thrashers should already know about them though, so in that aspect they're not that obscure.
The song I chose is among my favorites by them. Speed, an amazing solo part, loud bass, glorious hair and ball crushing vocals.

Definitely a gem, a friend of mine turned me on to them, Nevermore (who are awesome at making solos I can't drive while listening to because they space me out), and Testament... whoa god Testament...
Honorable mentions go to Morbid Angel. Great bands who're obscure yet have awesome followings despite their obscurity.

Great addition. When I started going to bondage clubs a few years back I got really into DCD and a whole slew of darkwave and industrial music. Great stuff.

All in all so far good posts folks, keep it up.

Bathory's Shores in Flames. The slow build up at the start, the thunder of the guitars as the song proper begins, Quorthon's raw but emotional vocals, the scream of "fire" before the solo and the solo itself. Sounds like pretty common stuff, aye, but the way it's handled in this song is all completely top-notch. This song used to blow me away over and over when I was still discovering metal. Fucking amazing I tell 'ya.

Tick of the clock by Chromatics.

It's weird, because of how basic it is, but it really helps me focus.

I often played it whilst waiting for my exams(standing outside the hall) and it put me in this zen trance, which I really like.

However, I only know of them because of Drive, which is one of my favourite movies of all time.

[small]That soundtrack was amazing :3[/small]

If you want to skip to where it starts getting really, really epic, skip to 4:21. The climax is just incredible, although entire song album is a masterpiece though. This is the final track- the album is full of jazzy, tumultuous, mathcorey goodness, which makes this even more amazingly beautiful to hear after you've been through all that.

I'm gonna say Voyager. Not usually a fan of metal, but I love progressive metal, especially when they go with clean vocals. There's just something about this song that clicks with me:

Plus they're Australian, may as well give them some exposure.
