Really, if you are going to play an online game that features co-op, could you please have a f@#king mic on and plugged in? I suppose it could be worse, but really... if you're playing online co-op.. put your mic on and act like a partner.

I suppose since I'm making this a topic and not just a complaint I should open it up to the rest of the Escapists out there for their opinions.

Um...Ok

I'm assuming you mean this on consoles as you can type while doing PC gaming co-op

Or you could communicate through text, even though it is not as effective.

Sorry, I was just playing Borderlands last night and some guy joined my game and then didn't talk... ever... you know how annoying that can get sometimes when you're trying to negotiate item trades or decide on what to do.

I agree. How dare people who don't have mics attempt to play an online game.
Damn them and their free will.

I hate it on xbox but if they can hear my voice it's kinda cool, and it's it a lot better than having some douchebag with a mic.

Most XBox systems come with a mic. My point is that if you intend on playing online co-op you should be prepared to communicate with your partner(s).

I have a mic but I never use it except when gaming with family or people I know IRL.

Online gamers are mostly boring, racist, sexist, homophobic tossers (or pretending to be such so they can be tough on the internet, which is even worse). I have nothing to say to them, and I definitely don't want to hear what they have to say to me. They've got fingers, they can type if communicating with me means that much to them.

From the sound of it I don't wan't to talk to you. Play with friends, or play with the knowledge that not everybody gives a shit.
So if you don't give a shit stick to solo and stop ruining the experience for everyone else by joining their game and going off doing your own thing.

I get really shitty when people rage about you not using a mic. I am mute, how will I use a fucking mic, hmm? It is the reason I do not play left 4 dead or killing floor as much as I'd like, really sohuld not let them get to me, but it does put me off playing.
That being said I tend to use common sense instead of a mic, it works fine.

You can't be mad at people for this. They may hate you, they may speak a different language, they may not own a mic, they may be sticking it to the man, they may be socialising to people IRL whilst playing or they may be deaf. This is just a rage thread, calm down.

Screw Online co-op, local can't be beat for pure fun. Also it is easier to coordinate.

Really, in my experience (as a PC Gamer) there seem to be very few, if any, multiplayer co-op games that require a mic for effective play. Certainly they may be useful but even though I've been meaning to pick up a relatively cheap one for a while, I've never gotten around to it. Yet I can still play games requiring a high degree of co-op like Left 4 Dead perfectly fine.

That's part of the reason I like L4D, actually. Because the context-sensitive voice commands when you mouse over something are good enough to not make a mic almost mandatory to play.

well... since i have only come up with spammers singing songs, racist´s saying Mexicans should die, Homophobics that keep calling everyone gay and fag, and narcizistic priks that think their strategy is the only good one to do and everyone should do the same, i prefer to only use it when i know i really need it

but i kind of only use it when playing strategy based FPS´s like CTF games or Left 4 Death (and sometimes i doubt CTF really needs a mic)

any game where all you have to do is shoot the other team or kill everyone else makes the mic redundant

No. I will not plug in my mic and, really, if you are relying solely on that your are not on a good team.

I know exactly what you mean. Im talking to thin air half the time because my teammates have buggered off somewhere without warning me or feels its okay to ignore what Im saying to them because they dont have Mic's. They dont cost much and you honestly get respected more for having a mic.

Well ... Unless you put on a whiny voice and whistle the themetune to Knightmare. (Which I did once and got kicked for it, I was bored!)
