Aren't we a resourceful bunch? I'll let you read the article from the Sydney Morning Herald as I don't think I can do the story justice. But basicaly Gamers have done in 3 weeks what scientists have been trying to do for a decade... Does this sound like a plot from Star Gate Universe to anyone else?

Well this is excellent news. The gaming community doing something so vastly impressive, compared to playing COD with pornstars.
... that sounded sarcastic its not.
We should apply our superiorness to taking our the world, that was sarcastic.

I myself as a 'gamer' (god I hate using that term), welcome our new 'gamer' overlords.
Next on the list, curing cancer perhaps? Followed by bringing peace to the mid-east?

Yeah, people who play video games are probably the most powerful resource on Earth. I'm sure you can take any problem and if you can turn it into a game the problem will be solved before long. Attach achievements to those games for even faster results; I mean there's entire groups of people who actively try to find the most efficient way to get achievements in games.

My favourite part is how they say it is far from Second Life and Dungeons and Dragons. Yes, because they are by far and away the most popular online games ever made. In fact every person who plays video games has to choose between those two. Second Life isn't really a game either, it's closer to a virtual reality.

So maybe the news will stop ragging on video games and their players calling us a bunch of useless / murderer spawning bunch. If this can actually lead to a cure, or atleast slow the virus down significantly, we'll of chalked up some brownie points.

Now, no one at all can say that video games are completely useless.

Well, OK, in a sense they are for the most part. But this is proof that they have a purpose.
They do have other uses like entertaining people or scaring old people, so they are very useful.

If they keep this up, doctors will be out of their jobs.
Exactly, there's no money in having a cure for AIDS and cancer.

That's fantastic! Now maybe the nay-sayers regarding video games will get off our cases. :p
