Some open betas are starting and I figured I'd give a heads up for anyone interested in trying the games out.

The Crew 2 is a racing game that seems to be a combination of Need for Speed and Sonic Racing Transformed. The game has cars, as most racers do, but also motorcycles and planes to use. And players can swap between the three vehicles at will.

Defiance 2050 is a re-release of 2013's Defiance, an mmo, third-person shooter that had an accompanying TV show (I've been told it was pretty good) and eventually went free to play. The game takes place on earth a few decades in the future with aliens, mutants, and abilities to use. The game features graphic upgrades and an overhauled combat system.

So, interested in either of these? Defiance is kinda disappointing since it's the same game over again. I do remember playing the first game and, while I didn't hate it, nothing about it really stood out to me. I still haven't had much time with the first Crew game, but I'll give the beta a shot. The ability to swap vehicle types on the fly seems pretty neat.

Total fucking forgot the Crew 2 was going to be a thing. I'm actually really interested in that, I might try to get myself in that beta tonight. Thanks buddy.

I got a free copy of the Crew 2 with my 1080ti, and I played the closed beta and had decent fun.

It certainly feels loads better to control than the original, and it runs remarkably well to boot (even before the 1080ti).

The loot mechanics were always a bit odd.

Ooh, thankyou for sharing, is downloading the True Crue Twogaloo now.

Seeing that Defiance is bringing back unwanted memories of playing, well, Defiance. Not terrible, as you said, but not exactly anything better than a bland, sorely missed opportunity. Those gun sound effects though, I totally forgot how bad they were.

Based on prior Ubi games with driving, I can't imagine they do it very well. The Crew seemed so ridiculous that even tho I own it (probably multiple times) I will never find myself playing it. It strikes me as being the kind of game some out-of-touch, old exec shareholder thought the "young people" would like in "one of those there video game things with cars in." A bit like Watch Dogs 2.

????

It's basically NFS? Car racing, with multiple disciplines such as off road, high performance, street, rally. It had one of the most impressive open world maps of the generation, and was really a genuinely fantastic cruising game.

Sometimes people around here seem like they're trying so hard to be cynical that reason just exits the building.
