Now i myself am a concert goer. I attend pretty much any heavy metal concert as long as the good to bad ratio is ok. I've been to about 50 concerts maybe more maybe less *includes festivals*. I understand why they are there get you pumped for the main acts or other acts etc but sometimes the opening band is so horrible... words cant describe it. Only twice have i ever had good opening bands.

The worst- Opening for anvil... didnt even care to learn there name. Heres my example why they suck. The best song was a SKID ROW COVER. yes you heard it here folks thats pretty damn bad

Summer Slaughter Festival This last tuesday- Didnt learn their names either. But it was a bunch of young skinny teenage boys makeing noise into the mic and playing simple riffs. Worst part they tried to get the crowd into them when not one person was moving giving the horns if it wasnt for them it would be so silent you could hear a bug fart.

Now i respect most musicians seeing as how i don't play gutiar drums etc *know how to play piano* but sometimes i feel like just fml why are these people here. Anyone else run into this at concerts or am i just a picky fuck.

Best opening bands- War Bringer and Dreaming Dead *cause i met the lead singer back stage....*

I've only been to two concerts before, Lights and Nightwish.

The opening bands were split for me. Lights' opening band was quite good, while Nightwish's was not.

Lights had Jets Overhead open, and I actually liked them.

Nightwish had Sonic Syndicate open. They were awful. I just wanted them to leave the stage.

Only went to one concert ever so far sadly. NIN.
Two opening bands, Peaches, was awesome (and surprising since she comes out looking like a weirdo and then just rocks out and its like Wow) and a second band that I did not like at all but apprently is rather big. Bauhaus or something I think.

I love this little diddy.
Anyway In the cases you brought up If the opening band Is decent, it's fine with me, not amazing, but at least not terrible.

The opening bands I see are generally pretty damn good. Best so far was when I saw the Dropkick Murphys. Larry and His Flask played, then Strung Out, then the Murphys. Strung Out isn't as good as the others, but still good.

I was very disappointed at the AC/DC concert (Sydney) by the opening act. I think it was 'Calling all cars". I'd never heard them or their music before, but the fact that they were opening for AC/DC and Wolfmother got my hopes up. These hopes were quickly dashed when they played lousy songs and kept on telling us who they were. You could hear the screams of relief when Wolfmother ran onto the stage (really enjoyable live band, but the lead singer's voice is fuckin earsplitting).

Yeah always some shitty opening bands but if you get to see some good people afterwards it can make it better

Hell I've gone to see the opening band- Eisley, Tegan & Sara (who are freakin' opening for Paramore *vomits*), The Dresden Dolls (though all these bands have been headliners too)
I really enjoyed Vedera and Miniature Tigers when they opened for bands I went to see. I've heard several good openers.

At a soundwave side show Enter Shikari opened for Tacking back Sunday, It was awesome when over half the crowed left after screaming one more song before the TBS guitarist walked on stage and a large boo came from the crowed (myself included). TBS would have only been a let down after the amazing set that ES played. Funniest thing was the next day Rou got sick and they had to get Sam from the architects to sing for them. So happy I got to see Rou and not Sam.

I went to see Dream Theater, support act Symphony X. So good

I actually enjoyed the support slot more than the headline.

Yeah, those opening guys for the Atlanta show were terrible...

However, when I saw Mastodon last November, High on Fire opened. Best opening band ever.

Curiously the best and worst support acts I've seen were at the same gig:

Red Hot Chili Peppers supported by James Brown and Chicks On Speed.

Chicks On Speed weren't necessarily just awful, they were simply a horrible choice for a support act for a rock band (they're an all girl techno / electronica dance group) and to my knowledge we saw them on night 3 of a four night run of being bottled off stage.

Then James Brown came on and, well, James Brown.

Iron Maiden after Marilyn Manson? Technically Turbonegro opened the night though. Weirdest gig that, a crowd split about 50/50 between the nu-metal kiddies and old school metal heads who looked like they'd all arrived by Harley.
