Opinion on age of smexy time

Just having a talk with my friend and i wanted your opinion my fellow Escapists.

Generally 18 is the legal age for sexual consent, however what is your opinion on this? Afterall theres no denying people do it underage anyway.

I mean if an 18 year old has sex with a 17 year old 1 day shy of her birthday, he's technically a pedophile (Having sex with minors)

So what would the age difference have to be for you (Personally) to be outraged?

In England, it's legal to have sex at 16, but onnly legal to watch it at 18, so maybe if that 18 year old closed his eyes...

Mostly because I´m not fond of the goverment having the right to say that what you want with such a personal subject matter as sex is invalid. That strikes me as wrong. However, one should be forced to hit puberty, at least.

Edit: Oh, just remembered: You are not allowed to have a child until you´re 18. Having sex is not equal to having a child.

In Denmark we can have sex from 15, because thats when you Theoretical can take care of a child physicaly, then we give you the responsibility.

Actually a no, don't forget close age clauses. An 18 year old can legally have sex with a 17 year old, no problem.

I'd say 15, but here in britain the age is 16 anyway so it wouldn't really make much of a difference here. I lost mine when I was 15 and the girl was 14 (it was on her birthday), and I have no regrets about it. I was ready. so was she. so...

Actually 18 is just the legal age for where you happen to live. Here in the UK it's 16, as is the case with many European countries with Spain even having 13 be the age of consent. This is just something that varies from culture to culture. Realistically, a lot of people in the UK start having sex at 13/14. And while I was pretty much asexual up until I was 14 it doesn't really bother me that kids are doing this. Personally, I feel that any more than a two year age gap with someone under the age of 16 is pretty suspect.

My rule of thumb to tell if someone is too young to date/have intercourse with is this:
Divide your age (the older persons age) in half. Then add 7. If the younger person is above that age then its alright.

eg: I'm 17. 17/2 = 8.5 + 7 = 15.5 So it'd be alright for myself to go out with, we will round up to a 16 year old. It works for all ages too.

But, I personally dont think anyone should be having sex before 16 anyways.

Pedophilia is a person who has a sexual attraction towards pre-pubescent children... That, in and of itself, is a completely different thing from a child molester/rapist. The latter is a person who actually engages in sexual acts with said pre-pubescent children.

Ephebophilia, is a sexual attraction to post-pubescent minors, where they are still underage, but having already hit puberty, are sexually mature.

Also, an 18 year old having sex with a 17 year old is not a crime, as there is some lee-way for things like that... Like, 2 or 3 years or something... I dunno. They're not gonna be hunting down 18 year olds who have sex with their 17 year old significant others.

actually it is a crime in most places in the US. But you're right, they don't usually arrest people for 18 on 17 year olds.

However, legally, a 17 year old girl can claim statutory rape in court and win, even if she has perfectly consensual sex with the 18 year old, because she cannot legally give consent.

It's a broken law, but it's still law.

I think the gvment should not be running around forcing standards that some people believe are "right" on anyone, regardless of the subject.
That said, I am 31, and even if it was legal I could not see dating someone under the age of 18. in point of fact, most of the girls I am attracted to are 21-35. My girlfriend is 35. But I think a good rule of thumb might be, what, 12 years in either direction?

Yeah no, that is by far the worst argument by far that I have ever heard for this kind of topic. it needs to stay 18 and needs to be 18 globally, this 15 and less shit in other countries is atrocious and retarded. its not the dark ages where girls need to be baby factories from 16 on because people die of old age before 40, also these ridiculously low ages for consent are what help breed the sick fucks who want to rape 5 yearolds

Personally, I support compulsory sterilisation (of the temporary, implant kind) for all people from the time they hit puberty. Give 'em the implant, build sexual health training, relationship management and social responsibility classes into schools and let 'em get on with it. Big deal.

The whole "no sex outside marriage" thing arose way back when as a means of controlling... wait for it... not sex, but procreation! Nobody wanted a ton of kids floating around that nobody could look after. Oh yeah... and the prudish old lord-dudes of the jealous persuasion didn't want their adolescent wives getting it on with the young, handsome guardsman or something. Which is why all this stuff got built into religion and society.

Most of that is not a problem these days. So let 'em get on with it.

Of course... the corrolory (sp?) is that you need to pass exams, means tests and demonstrate social responsibility etc. before you can earn a licence to have the implant removed.
