OK. Before anyone asks, yes, I used the search option. I found lots of threads that had mentions of abortion, some that presented or asked for information on abortion, but none that actually invited people to present their opinions on it. I've seen too many political topics lately that descend into discussions on abortion, among other things.

So...Here it is. Let's get to the heart of the issue. I want people to post what they think, where they stand, and, above all else, why. Please, don't attack people for their stance on the issue, just post your opinion and your reasons for believing what you believe.

Here I go:

I'm against abortion, I hate it. I know that in dire situations that demand that either the mother or the child dies, abortion is morally acceptable, because it's a choice between two lives. Abortion is a difficult choice in any circumstance, and until we ourselves are put into that kind of situation (an impossibility for me) we can't imagine the emotions it must create. As much as it pains me to say this, I will not support banning abortion in its entirety, because I have no right to make that choice for another person.

Consider me a hypocrite if you want, but I'm so conflicted on this issue that I can barely get my thoughts straight.

I'm pro-choice. The decision should lie with the pregnant woman. And I wouldn't consider the baby to actually be a person until after it has left it's mothers body.

Pro-choice here
I don't see how anyone else can dictate to a woman what she can and can't do with her own body. And that group of cells in her womb is not a child.

....But there's an excellent chance that those cells will develop into a child, so you have to take the future into consideration, right?

Womans' body, womans'choice, it shouldn't be any other way really. Though in my current frame of mind if I were to ever get a girl pregnant then I would want her to get an abortion, I'm not ready to be a father, if at all.

I'm pro-choice because I think the other side's arguments are a joke.
Abortion fear imho arises through a combination of ambiguity about what qualifies as a "life" and an at-best selective reading of the Bible by Christians to keep this ambiguity from ever being resolved.

And before you ask, enjoy this passage of genocide, murder of mothers and male children, ending in a delightful implied pedophilic rape. Now where are the supporters of these God-sanctioned acts?

I say it's her body let her decide, but at a point the baby is really "alive" so it gets a bit murky as to what's right.

Pro choice. If a woman wants to get rid of a child then she has every right to. If abortion was illegal we would probably see a few woman dying after getting black market abortions, or whatever the terminology is. Its safer for the would be mother for trained doctors to go ahead with the procedure.

As long as the baby isn't concious and alive.... That's when I think the cutoff date should be.

I am strongly Pro Choice in cases of Rape, Incest, Poor single mothers unable to care for the child or abusive families.

seriously... You Want a Retarded Inbreed of a kid...

(PS: also choice if there is going to be a mental illmess involved)

Pro-Choice to a degree, I deep down am pro-life but who the hell am I to tell someone what to do (well I'd tell them to have their Boyfriend to put on a condom)
but instances of rape I find that it is acceptable but if your trailer trash who is to stupid to find another way, then maybe your kid is pennence... (I do know how that last statement is)

I'll call myself pro life. There are times it may be justified but I would never want to make that call. For disclosure I have a seven year old son with Downs Syndrome. It was diagnosed early in the pregnancy and several complications followed. The OB suggested that abortion was an alternative but my wife and I went with it. I'm more for dealing with the causes of abortion the just saying no. My OB friends, my wife is a doctor so I know a few doctors, agonize over it. Most have done it though. More education, more birth control, and a little more respect for the power of procreation and maybe the question wouldn't come up so often.

I'm pro-choice, I don't necessarily endorse the killing of children in the womb, but women should be allowed to choose for themselves.

If a woman becomes pregnant and feels she cannot raise that child in a productive, understanding and enlightened environment then yes, abortion is, in my opinion, the best way to go.

In an overpopulated and ever-more consumptive planet, with women's rights more valid than they have ever been in the history of humankind, how can abortion ever be a bad thing?

Abortion is a great thing, think of it not as destroying life but as saving another.
He in the Uk you can donate the stem-cells which can cure a MASSIVE range of illness',
Also what is the Time limit in the other parts of the world here in England its 24 weeks which is a bit long but it always varies.

If anyone brings religion into this then im going to havbe to perform some late abortions.

Pro Choice however I do believe there should be more objective scientific discussion as to when an entity is considered to have a conciousness. Currently there is too much rhetoric flying both ways to really understand it.

Too true. There's not much that can't be made clear(er) by objective (which is to say, real) scientific study.

In my opinion, Abortion is fine unless you use it almost as a form of contraceptive.

So, "bah, I'm pregnant again, ah well, I'll get an abortion" isn't really all that good. But if the pregnancy was a genuine mistake, and the woman/couple were not ready for a child (maybe financially, maybe for other reasons, who knows) then who are we as bystanders to say they must have the baby?

As for the whole moral issue, well, the embryo doesn't have a brain at this point so I don't think it's going to mind, and you can always make more sperm and eggs.

I've known someone who has had an abortion, it wasn't an easy decision, and they were very VERY upset about it. The last thing they need are a bunch of people, who know NOTHING about their situation, telling them what is right and what isn't.
