So after receiving my scholarship money, I have decided to go ahead with one of my dreams and that is to build my very own computer. I have consulted with two of my friends who have done this themselves and they have offered me two similar yet different specs. They are currently still discussing about it as I type this out. I plan to keep my budget around $1,500+SGD or lower as much as possible. Here they are:

Friend A's Recommendation:

Intel® Core? i5-3470 Processor
GIGABYTE H77-D3H-MVP
Radeon HD 7870 MSI OC or Radeon HD 7850 MSI OC
CORSAIR CX600M 600W 80 + Bronze Modular
G-Skill Ripjaws X 8GB 1600Mhz RAM
WD Black 1TB HDD
Windows 7 Home Premium

Friend B's Recommendation:

Intel® Core? i5-3330 Processor
ASRock H77 Pro4/MVP
Radeon HD 7790 or GeForce GTX 650 Ti BOOST
SEASONIC G Series 550W 80 + Gold Modular
2 G-Skill Ripjaws 4GB RAM
WD Black 1TB HDD
Windows 7 Home Premium
LG Disc Drive
DELL 23'' S2340 IPS or ASUS 23'' VS239H

Case: Fractal Design Arc Midi R2

I do play plenty of old video games (Fallout 1, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights 2, Soldier of Fortune 2, etc), I plan to play on my new PC games like Fallout: New Vegas, Crysis, X-Com: Enemy Unknown, Deus Ex: Human Revolution at high/maxed (hopefully) settings with 60+FPS.

Any opinions and suggestions to these two builds is greatly appreciated!

If you are going for the best performance for the lowest possible price, I'd suggest this alternative build.
A question I would like to ask on behalf of one of my friends.

Why AMD processors and not Intel?

In our region, NVIDIA cards tend to cost a lot more, I could get a HD7950 from ASUS top edition for the same price.

Because if you are looking to save money, you should be looking at AMD. Also at the sub $200 range AMD is better performance wise.

I see. Could I go with a FX-6100 instead cause the price for the FX-8320 is unfortunately much more expensive than the i5-3470 here.
