Well, diplomacy is finally out, and I was wondering what other Sins players thought. It's certainly nice to be able to give missions to the AI now. The envoy ships are also interesting. The highlight to the tweaks of the diplomacy system I like is the new pacts you can make. Increase extraction rates, missile damage, etc, depending on the pact.

Once I've got some cash I really oughta download those two mini expansions. Loved Sins when it first came out, but once the novelty of massive battles wore off it just sorta fell to the side as I went on playing other games. Why? Just not enough variation on how to win and play.

But now that there's a more elaborate defense setup and better diplomacy I'll have to give it another shot.

So... no opinions from people who've played it yet aside from myself? I do think it's worth the 10 dollars, though.

The new diplomacy system can take some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad.

Another thing I noticed is that the pirates got a big boost in power. They actually managed to inflict major damage on my main fleet, and took out a Dunov BC within the first minute or so of combat. And my fleet had two dunovs and four Hoshikos, plus the other combat ships.

Be careful. I've seen self bumping lead to probation before.

Sins is really designed to be a LAN game, IMO. Playing the AI just get's boring. So, I haven't tried the expansion yet.

Well, not Lan. More like playing against humans instead of AI.

More or less on topic:
I haven't tried diplomacy, is it worth the money or no?

So far, it seems like it is. It's nice to be able to reject to do a mission the AI gives, and issue your own. I think the AI will generally try to accomplish the mission provided the awards are big enough. And the new pacts you can make with an ally can come in handy. Though the AI has a tendency to offer you missions against the AI member you are partnered with at the moment.

Well, the AI will always give you missions to go after someone they aren't partnered with, it makes perfect sense.

I know. You just gotta wonder why they think you'd go after the AI you are allied with, who potentially has a fleet as large as your own. And has star bases in practically every gravity well they have. Which I only do if it's an important planet, either resource wise, or if it's a choke point, or if it's got an artifact on the planet, or it's a key research planet (I.E, lots of research stations). And of course, as I said, you now have to be wary of attacking the pirates in their bases. You need to go in with overwhelming force or not at all. I got overconfident and had to reload my last save, which was thankfully before I ordered the fleet into the pirate base. Oh, you can also now, with the right research in the diplomacy tech tree, give the pirates a mission to attack another factions planet. And this can happen before the regular raid amasses. Of course the raid you launch is proportionate to the amount you offer the pirates in credits. It takes about 4000 credits to hit a moderate strength pirate raid.
