Steam's summer sale [http://store.steampowered.com/summersale/] is onto day 2, featuring games such as Just Cause 2, FTL, Codblops 2 and The Talking Dead. Not wishing to be outdone, EA's Origin lists some steamy deals on their own site [http://store2.origin.com/].
Yes, that's right; their only game on sale is Sims 3. Talk about huge competition! Valve will have to step it up to keep in the race with this contender.
Good golly gosh! It seems digital distribution and awful DRM actually do mean better sales!
God, if we only listened to Microsoft we would be getting sales of this calibre on the xbox one as well, but everyone had to ruin it because they couldn't see how awesome the future would be!
Wow, the multitude of great, great sales on all these games of the years really want me to switch from Steam and game exclusively on Origin.
*A gun pointed at my head comes into frame*
As I said, EA has really shown how consumer friendly and totally not greedy they are. You should buy every game they have.
Hooray for EA.
...
Ok, more seriously, I decided to see how much I could get for the cost of the Sims 3 and all the expansion packs (which, even on sale, still comes out to be $231). I gave up when I discovered I could buy PAGES of full games from the "below $5 list." Many big games including GTA 4 and Vice city, Just Cause 2, Bioshock, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Far Cry 1&2, Magicka, and Left 4 Dead 1&2 are on this list.
Modsbannit, I wish I had thought of this kind of thing to talk about on my blog. XD Such a fun comparison. Would have been nice to have something other than a handful of reviews and a nuzlocke run.
Now I can't do this story without feeling like I'm stealing...
On the actual subject, you made me do a double take, and then sigh in annoyance. For a full second you made me think you were serious. And then...Nope, EA still being EA. What else is new?
Kinda makes you glad Microsoft didn't keep the DRM on the XBONE, eh? I don't think they'd have given us the deals either.

At first I thought you meant Origin (yeah, didn't notice L4D in your list) so I went and checked did they really had Magicka or even a list of games under $5. Or, heck, even pages of games. I was disappointed, there were games under £10 and only about 40 of them (probably around 30 if you remove the DLC).
Anyway, if you haven't I'd suggest you something, and I want to be clear - BUY MAGICKA NOW BECAUSE IT'S AN AWESOME GAME. And it's under $5 (it's £2 here, dunno how much is this in dollars, probably, like $4.50) - it's an awesome price.
Also, here [http://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Price&sort_order=ASC&category1=998] you can find all games that are on offer right now and are sorted by price. If you want to add the DLC to the list, then choose the All Items from the drop down menu, but prepare to wade through pages of clutter. Anyway, there are games for under a quid (or a dollar) and I can recommend Ghost Master. It's the most fun I've had for £0.74 (probably a dollar for you) when I bought it during the Winter sale and was priced the same. It's a flawed game, to be sure, but has absolutely brilliant ideas. If you like games like Commandos (by the way, the three games are on there, too - same price each) or Desperados, then Ghost Master is similar mixed up with some Dungeon Keeper. As I said, it has it's problems but it's a dollar, if you don't like it, it's not a huge loss. That was my reasoning but I love the game.

Origin could be pretty decent if their prices weren't such a joke. Simcity is 100 dollars for fuck's sake EA that is not how digital distribution works.
Q: One of the things that Steam does is this random deep-discounting of software, and it works well for them. Do you see that as something you want to do?
David DeMartini: We won't be doing that. Obviously they think it's the right thing to do after a certain amount of time. I just think it cheapens your intellectual property. I know both sides of it, I understand it. If you want to sell a whole bunch of units, that is certainly a way to do that, to sell a whole bunch of stuff at a low price. The gamemakers work incredibly hard to make this intellectual property, and we're not trying to be Target. We're trying to be Nordstrom. When I say that, I mean good value - we're trying to give you a fair price point, and occasionally there will be things that are on sale you could look for a discount, just don't look for 75 percent off going-out-of-business sales.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: When all your Sims expansions can be bundled into a fifty dollar package, I'll buy them. Until then, no dice.
Seeing this kick in the teeth up against a Steam sale... well, it's just painful.
