I'm looking for anyone whose had a problem similar to what I am and who has found a solution since I have been through help pages elsewhere and gotten no where, I even waited 10 minutes for an EA webchat only to be ignored by EA customer services for 15 minutes. I'm not joking the only person who wrote a thing was me.

Anyway, to the point. I was playing mass effect 2 a few nights ago and knocked the plug out from under my desk, the PC turned off and when I tried to play again I hit 'play' on origin and nothing happened, i kept doing this and still nothing so I've changed the exe file names, uninstalled and reinstalled both the game and origin and have tried repairing the game, anyone have any other suggestions?

What does task manager say? you might find either that the mass effect .exe page is in the KBs or in the low MBs in which case there could be a program preventing it from loading or the config is not correct. It's even possible you may find multiple ME2.exe, removing all but one may fix it.

Whatever the case using a crack may fix the problem although this is by your discretion only.

It looks like it completely drops off the task manager after a few seconds, I've expanded the task manager and searched for it and it will only ever appear the first time opening it up after Origin has been opened itself and then it drops from the manager completely, or at least I've not been able to find it.

Power getting knocked out usually don't cause bugs as severe as this. For what it's worth, I suspect there's a file that's gotten corrupted in the registry, and they don't get removed when you uninstall the game. Here's what you'll need to do:

Uninstall Mass Effect 2 using Origin.
Download and run CCleaner (it is a legitimate and reputable piece of software, nothing fishy about it. It's useful for cleaning out the registry and other cache on the computer). Download the free version, you don't need to buy it to clean the registry.
Run the registry cleaner (you don't really need to run any of the other stuff, unless you want to clear out various computer cache). Run it multiple times, it tends to find more files if there are many files to clean out from the registry in the first few runs.
Reinstall Mass Effect 2, and see if it runs.

If that doesn't work, go into AppData (you can reach it by typing %appdata% in the "adress bar" of windows explorer (NOT internet explorer!)), and see if there are any files there relating to Mass Effect 2 (perhaps a folder named Mass Effect 2, or a sub-folder in Origin or Electronic Arts. Be careful not to randomly delete stuff in appdata, it is hidden for a reason. You shouldn't need to uninstall mass effect 2 for this step, these are files that the game will normally generate again if necessary).

If that doesn't work, you'll have to reinstall the computer (in my personal opinion this should not be necessary, it's pretty extreme). And if THAT doesn't work, your computer is now cursed and it hates you. Tough luck.

Hope this is to some help, and I hope you don't mind my humorous jape at the end. Computers can be fickle sometimes.
