With Windows 7 coming out soon many people took up the old Vista bashing again saying how they are relieved to get a new OS while other just ignore it and stick to XP. I really fail to see how Vista is so terrible I've been using it for months now and there wasnt a single crash, performance is excellent and overall it runs like a dream. So what is your stance about Vista and people bashing it?

I've never used it, so I can't really say... but the few times I did use it, it just felt weird. Like things weren't where they were supposed to be.

I'm worried that people with Vista will be robbed by an almost immediate introduction of a new OS, general support for it might wane... Robbing anyone who bought a computer lately really.

Networking in Vista sucked, in my opinion. It was shiny and pretty, though.

Agreed dude, I use vista and I've never had a problem with it. People who bash vista have clearly never used it.

I don't mind vista at all, the only annoyance is a few old games don't work but who cares they're old!

Oh, this is about Vista? I thought it would have been about Apple.

Vista is fine, I like it way better than XP. I hate XP. From what I've seen of Windows 7, I like that too. Most of the time it seems like people just bash it because they don't want to upgrade.

Vista's main caveat is that it uses almost double the resources consumed by XP, meaning if you were running on an older machine when it came out, it was not in your interest to upgrade. To a lesser extent, Vista is not fully compatible with a great number of older games, and getting those games to run on Vista, while possible, requires research and knowhow that many people using Vista do not necessarily possess. Vista also has the annoying tendency to ask you whether or not you want to do every little thing. This is magnified by the fact that half the things you don't want it doing will do themselves anyway without ever asking. Add to this the fact that directx10 is limited to Vista for the sole purpose of selling the operating system and you get a lasting stigma that, as is now evident, rode Vista into the ground. Windows 7 would be here right around now anyway, the 'spit and polish OS' is a Microsoft mainstay, which comes right before the 'OS with its heart cut out,' to be released when the Next Big Thing (tm) is released.

From what I know, most of the Vista bashing came because it was a terrible resource hog. If you're a geek, gamer, or techie, you probably own a computer capable of running Vista and two of the latest games before you start to encounter trouble, so it wouldn't really be an issue. Windows 7 doesn't have the same system resource requirements, so if you like it, it'll probably improve performance, although it might not be terribly noticeable.

Yeah, Brewbeard's post definitely kicks the crap out of this one, but he's right. Anything Vista can do, 7 can do better or more efficiently, so there isn't much reason to keep using the older version.

I use vista, and I've used old games (this is on my laptop as well) as well as new ones.

I really don't understand why people hate vista so much, but I still back up all files on an external hard drive just in case, but I did that before I upgraded as well.

The constantly asking whether or not you want to proceed gets very annoying but other than that vista works great.

I think thats a sweeping generalisation. If you look around the internet a bit, you'll find a tonne of problems with Vista.

For example, my Xbox has never red ringed, but I don't refuse to accept that a lot of them do.

To me, bashing an OS seems like a wasteful endeavour. In my opinion, I liked Vista, I found it a significant improvement on the last computer I had (which had Windows '98). When I hear people complain about it, some of their points are valid, but maybe a little too critical. From my experience with Vista and XP, XP systems have been generally quicker, but I find Vista to be a little more stable; though, I'm no expert on the subject.

You have to turn user account control off, here are the steps:

Control panel> user accounts and family saftey> User accounts> turn user account control off

Is it bad one of my computers still runs on windows 98?
Well honestly I prefer XP for a bit more ease of use, and its a bit more
comfortable to use, like people have said before some people dont want to change

Well I have worked on quite a few vista PC's and laptops. It has never beeen an OS problem. I can go a step further with this little story.

I had a friend who hated vista with a passion, don't know why. Probly for the same reason as everyone else, he read reviews and took opinions from people who hadn't used it. He by circumstances too long to write about had to use my PC, after I asked him how it was all he came back with was 'merwwherer.. Its alright I guess'. I guess he couldn't talk with that foot in his mouth..

Also do I have to remind people how terrible XP and 98 were before their first service packs?

This "Are you sure you want to allow this?" attitude in Vista has been programmed out on most new machines now. Granted, when Vista was new, it was quite well known for being redundantly overprotective, but not so much anymore.
Though I'm sure it will still argue if you try to delete system 32/64.
