is it just me or as human kind continues are we finally leaving behind true horror (by that i mean something a bit more psychological than a man in a mask jumping out yelling BOO) people such as H.P.Lovecraft and Stephen King showed us the pinnacle of Horror and now that were becoming more aware are we losing what little true horror we have left

so what are your thoughts if you dont know what to think can you recommend any really good horror no matter what te medium (games, movies, books, etc)

Someone will always be making something genuinely scary, whether it be a book, a movie, a picture or a game.

Horror nowadays is full of cliche.

There isn't anymore of that subtle, piss-yourself horror anymore.

Take "Drag me to hell" as an example. A gypsie curse? Really?

That new movie "Orphan" looks just as lame, just another cookie cuter "OMG the creepy little girl is a demon, WHA?!?!?!" movie.

Wait, wait, wait, wait. A girl with a demon???

Is that not a direct rip-off of The Exorcist?

It's a good thing you didn't copy another persons thread, or maybe you just didn't use the search engine [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.119606].

Either way, this thread was done yesterday.

Come on, that's no coincidental, you're just a bastard.
actualy i started this thread because ive just finished reading the call of cthulu and was wondering if i couldget a good thread going about modern horror and how classic horror i feel is much better

and yes i may be a bastard but that has little to do with this argument

I don't know if she's actually demon possessed but she is the typical creepy little girl with no friends who ends killing a lot of people, or trying to.

I've said this aboutn 3094832432 times, but Exquisite Corpse by Poppy Brite! It takes horror to a new level. But I guess any book about necrophilia would

I guess you could say 'Haunted' by Chuck Palahniuk too

Want some good horror? Try "Hammer House of Horror", a horror series by the infamous Hammer films for British television in the 70s. Their low budget required them to concentrate on psychological tension, as oppose to simple shock tactics, which they pulled off masterfully.

As well as this, the quiet, suburban, otherwise normal setting gives the films a jarring undertone of reality, and the underlying sense that it really could happen to you.

I personally think most of the horror genre is completely retarded. I base my opinion on only one movie, the Blair Witch Project.

Man that movie sucked so much ass.
That movie is hilarious if you and your friend are the only ones in the theater, so we shouted out so much shit and through popcorn at the screen.

One my favorite nights ever.

Frankly when you try to compare or create anything horrifying it always falls short of the attrocities human kind is capable off I wish horror wrighters would get this no demon or apocolypse is more terrifying than mankinds set bar.
