I was out for a run and I started thinking about the future and what is in store for us, but then I pondered if we already knew our future. As ridiculous as it sounds, if our world went down the path of history of our favorite video games, book, or movie what would it look like? Do you think we will hit the Nuclear Scare Dystopia of Fallout? Are we likely to charge head first into the 41st millennium fighting Xenos and chaos of the Warhammer 40k franchise?

I just don't want a Star Trek future. So lame. Star wars or Halo wouldn't be so bad.

If not nuclear annihilation, then I'm gonna bet on something like The Fifth Element.

If you haven't seen The Fifth Element, go see it now.

I've thought about apocalyptic futures, and frankly, if I survived the big ol' disaster (whatever it may be), I would probably not be one of the strong who persevere. I'd probably become an hero out of hopelessness.

Look explaining it is complicated read the last chapter of a book called divergence.

It's nuts i tried explaining it but i just couldn't get it right, in simple terms everything is decided by an AI that's as old as the universe it has integrated into all earths systems leading to a program called Fair exchange or FE that traders use, in the end all of earths resources buildings and people are divided up into crews, ships and tradeable resources and sent into space by this AI in order to live and give every organism in the universe a fair chance at survival.

yeah that's the short horribly punctuated version version.

Its doubtful that it will be anything too scifi like. Just remember how they used to think the year 2000 would be like in the 1920s? Boy were they way off, thats probably going to be the case again, we dont progress that way.

We would have if we had a resource economy instead of a monitary one, but then that would have ment no internet. Now of course we can go into a resource economy and do all that shit and more, we can advance our technology tens of thousands of times faster and still have internet. The human race will beable to colonize planets in your lifetime by the way.

I don't think we'll end up with Starship Troopers or 40,000 but you never know what could unite humanity, although that's probably unlikely to happen, due to our very nature.

Personally, I like the Mass Effect future. Help from an ancient race of Aliens and Asari Prostitutes.

... What do you mean I can't have any Asari Prostitutes?

So you would take a universe wide war over an era of exploration and peace? I fail to see the reasoning behind this unless of course you have a death wish.

I dunno. I think I will stick to the tried and true saying "The more things change, the more things stay the same."

Edit- I guess I'm a little "the glass is half empty" right now.

Two reasons...

1: Utopia is boring

3: And i want aliens to look cool, not like humans with herpes on their face.

2: I really don't want to be a red shirt.

Start trek universe a utopia? you obviously dont watch it my friend.

Aliens can look coll all they want but they stop being cool immediately after you wet yourself and they melt your face with a plasma gun

One red shirt survived in the original series no one noticed though because they cut the scene were they saved his life he appeared in several episodes after but no one really cared.

EDIT: also that's 3 reasons not 2 and 3 and 2 are in the wrong order.
