Well, since there's going to be a lot of flippant remarks here, I'm just gonna say language. It's how we communicate thought and intellect.
For a more flippant remark...well...little background. I'm in Central Vermont, which was hit hard by Hurricane Irene. My house (Well, the house of the mother of an old friend who I'm renting from) had 3 feet of water in the first floor, and ive been without utilities of any sort since the end of August (At night, ive spent days either at work or at a friends). Based on this, I can say that hot water is the single most amazing invention ever. Seriously. Hot water is more amazing then space travel.

I think the modern computer is an amazing feat. When we make something that can calculate much faster than any genius human, you know you have a winner.

The LHC is the most sophistiacted machine ever created. Itself, the LHC isn't our greatest accomplishment as a species. The sheer level of organization, know-how, and drive it took to create the LHC is. It doesn't matter if those efforts are used to build the LHC, land on the moon, or run a country, that we can work together to achieve such feats is our greatest accomplishment.
Music. We arn't the only species cabable, but humankind throughout history has had great artists who wrote amazing pieces of music.

In fact all of modern science, we understand so much of the world now, don't get me wrong there's still loads more to learn but when you think about what we actually know and the work and intellect required to discover it all it really is astounding.
