Lately it seems that our govornment has been restricting us more and more. It almost seems the people of the US are having less and less a say in law making. What about our original rights: "We the people of the United States...". Wait... WE the PEOPLE! shouldn't we have a bigger say? Our second amendment the right to bear arms was made to keep our govornment in check. Now we have restritions on weapons: blade sizes, gun types, ect. Don't worry I'm not saying those are bad I'm just saying that our government has no right to do that. Yes it might be different from when our rights were made: we have stronger more destructive weapons. But still the more our government restricts our weapons the more they find they can controle us.

Back to the origional topic: should our government fear us? It seems nowdays that the only time our officials is election day!

So please talk about this and tell me what you think!

Governments should definitely fear the people. If they fear us, we control them. If we fear them, they control us. What gives them the right to control us, besides fear? Nothing.

Why would Palin want weapons banned?! She's a Republican who hunts! She'd more likely stick a gun up her twat than ban them. I'm sorry, but they are dead wrong (unless Palin is claiming she wants guns to be banned to make people forget about how much they hate her for hunting.)

I stopped caring about the government controlling us when I realized that there is nothing we can do if a SWAT team comes to your house.

Really? I'm pretty sure I do. I, for one, have the right to kick a chav in the face if he tries to steal from me.

They have every right to place retrictions on you as they are your leagally democratically elected geovernment. You trust them to do whats in the best interest of the country but have the opportunity to remove them in an election. The whole concept of the public needing weaponry to keep the government afraid of them is outdated in this modern, more civilised world. At least in places like the USA and GB.
The government should not fear the people, but the people should not fear the government. They should trust each other to work for the betterment of all.
The government excersises some level control on almost everything you do. It has to because people cannot control themselves in a manner that is productive for the majority.

You're asking if the government should fear the people of America taking up arms(the ones you claim they don't have many of anyway) and overthrowing them because they're passing laws that stop people carrying round massive knives?

Yeah, for some reason I don't think they should be that scared...

Great responses! I didn't say we shouldn't have gun regulations, They just shouldn't take our right to bear arms!

Although i'm not American, I doubt that the right to bear arms was conceived for that purpose. If you want to keep a goverment in check then all the American people have to do is vote for the right people who'll run the goverment the right way.

I realise that this is comment assumes an ideal situation and that sometimes it's a choice of the lesser of two evils, but democracy is the least corrupt (relatively) of the goverment types we know so all you can do is use your vote right and hope for the best, unless you decide to run for office yourself, in which case best of luck.

Also I can't believe Sarah Palin would want weapons banned. Isn't she a republican?

And as for "Should our Goverment fear us?" I think you may have watched V for Vendetta one too many times.

In fairness, the state should not pass laws that impair a private citizen from protecting himself. In essence, you shouldn't prohibit weapons if there is a need for private citizens to carry them.

Ah, but then you call into question whether they do need to. And thus, the inevitable Guns vs. No Guns debate starts

And then get sued for assault and have to give the chav what he was trying to steal as an apology.

The general populace shouldn't have access to lots of weapons because the general populace are idiots. We should leave our guns to the Police and Military, the people who are actually supposed to have them.

And yes, they should fear us, because we can vote them out of power.
I think a WOO BRITAIN! is in order.
Hey?
Can you please stop speaking that weird language and speak American?
It's the only language I understand... In America!

I really disagree with you on that point VERY much. The general populace are NOT idiots. The general populace are this country and if the politicians, military, and police are above the general populace enough to have the right to bear arms over the general populace, they are far too powerful already. You can take my guns from my cold, dead hands. Well actually if it came to that I'd get beat up, knocked out, then my guns would be taken...

They should NOT have the power to restrict us. Just because people voted for them they can't reign over us completely.
