I have a creeping feeling the time of year has something to do with this. The game isn't out till early 2017 yet but a limited time demo is available for PC and PS4 owners to download till November 1st if anybody is interested in having a taste. It isn't long but does set the tone for what is to come, which appears quite different in subject matter and atmosphere. Apparently there is lore to the Outlast world that is explored in a 5 part comic-book series of which only 2 are out (at) last, titled The Murkoff Account . Sooo, Any takers? Any sapients with opinions on these experiences?

Limited time demos are dumb. Im interested in Outlast (more for LP reasons though, no intent on playing it) but seriously, a demo should be a demo.

That aside, I do hope it is an actual sequel, since the Whistleblower DLC definitely left it open for that.

I played it just a minute ago and I wish I hadn't watched youtubers play it.

Maybe they changed a couple things, I don't know, it's been a while but as far as I could tell, it was a pretty similar if not the same demo that Let's Players got.

One thing that did get me though were the shadows that were only there for a split second in the corner of your vision then would go away, that's an awesome method to keep people on edge.

I'm wondering if the demo is just a streamlined thing to give you a feel for the game or if the transfers to locations (you go from the village to a well-lit school to maybe some other building with snow outside then back to the village) will actually be in the game. I'm not sure how I'll feel about it since The Evil Within did that exact same thing and lost interest in that game in a hurry.
Then again, it's Outlast, I'm sure it'll keep my interest but I like my locations being at least a little coherent otherwise I'm too lost to even be scared.

The only thing that really annoyed me was a certain jump scare. So cheap, I really hope the game doesn't have a bunch of them.

Quite enjoyed Outlast even if I'm not really a fan of these hide & seek games. But Outlast is structured more like a ride in a theme park and the game is over before it gets boring. The game does a really good job making you curious about what exactly this Murkoff corporation did which compels to keep exploring the asylum even if the scares are quite cheap and the 'gameplay' quite tedious(saved by a 5 seconds retread from a previous checkpoint). The Whistleblower DLC really elevated the game in my opinion. Being chased by this crazed 'doctor' was both hilarious and disturbing.

Outlast is a really fun game for a rainy afternoon or something. Definitely will pick up the sequel but don't know about the demo as I don't want to spoil the experience in advance. This is really a game you play one time then never again.

Ha! I play the first Outlast with a friend of mine, and "BUDDY!" from that part is still a greeting I and my friend use!
