Here we go kids, I feel like death warmed over! I'm currently working in Africa, Ethiopia to be exact and everyone here has their share of gastronomical anomalies. It's so common to have stomach issues here, what we would consider a taboo subject in polite conversation is otherwise discussed to its entirety in everyday conversation.

I remember the first day on the job in Ethiopia my boss asked a security guard how he was feeling. He so eloquently replied "Man, I got the shits like you wouldn't believe!"
Right now I'm in agony, something did not agree with me somewhere along the lines and now I can barely walk and can hardly keep anything down.

Enough of my complaining, it could be worse (although right now my intestines are cramping and can't imagine anything worse). My question is: What is the worst you have ever felt physically?
While traveling, at home, you ate potato salad that sat in the sun for too long.....

Lay it on me; I can't be the only one that feels like my stomach wants to divorce me.
On that note, its pepto time...

I had appendicitis a few years ago, worst pain I've ever felt.

It's like someone was twisting my guts around their fist.

The night before I went into the hospital was the longest night of my life.

Well, thanks to my dad, I have hereditary Spherocytosis [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spherocytosis] and Splenomegaly [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splenomegaly].

Anyway, I used to have debilitating pain, that felt someone shoved an icepick into my stomach, above my bellybutton, forced it out just underneath, then back in just above my groin. The only thing I could do was take some aspirin, keel over and wait for unconsciousness.

After going through that, my pain tolerance went through the roof. Even when they had to manually set my broken ankle into place, I hardly even winced.

I've never had a serious illness so I don't think I can complain too much about pain.

I used to get extreme period cramps, as in, I couldn't get out of bed for a day or two. The exact feeling is like someone scraping out the inside of your uterus with a spoon or a fork. The pill soon fixed that though.

Hurray for the pill!
Also hurray for too much information!

Other than that, I've had three root canals, two on the same tooth. That hurt like a ************.

Tie between when I got my wisdom tooth cut out, or when my kidneys act up and I literally cannot move my back.

The worst single pain I ever felt was having a bone marrow punction a few years ago. It's luckily a very short pain, but by Dog does that hurt...

The worst I've felt over a longer period of time was between November 1st and 10th 2011, after having undergone severe Chemo treatment, followed by a stem-cell transplant. I was sick and weak and nauseous and tired for a long time, but those ten days were the worst.

One more to make people uncomfortable. Years ago I had to have one of my wisdom teeth pulled, and my dentist numbed to wrong part of my mouth... then shoved what looks like a screwdriver into an non-numbed tooth and started wrecking shit... that is NOT a fun sensation...

that's too bad I hope you get better soon!

the worst was when I had my wisdom teeth out. I was in agony for a week after.
if had some pretty bad hangovers however that was self inflicted so I deserved it.

I think I've been lucky as far as debilitating pain goes.

Ever have kidney stones? I've met women who view the pain those fuckers give as more painful than childbirth. I've had seven of those things. Completely debilitating pain, and it's difficult to do anything, even walk, during that time. I've gone through dozens of painkillers and their effects have been reduced to the point to which I can and have awoken from lethal doses of the stuff.

So I guess the lesson here is to eat right and don't drink too much soda, kids!

Ok, that's a tough one:

Getting my freshly broken arm violently kicked probably tops my list so far and it is not an excperience I would like to repeat, nor would I recommend it to anyone.

Below that, I would put getting some work done on my teeth without any kind of numbing agent, because it just didn't work on me, even after getting 5 times the usual dose.

Then we have some asorted injuries to several joints, which all hurt like a *****.

But I still think I'm gonna go with the broken arm getting kicked.

Probably last year where I felt like something was eating me from the inside out. I could move but sleeping or eating were out of the question and the pain was so bad I started throwing up. When I ran out of things to throw up I didn't stop retching. All while stabbing pains ran constantly through my stomach.

I still have no idea what it was or what caused it. It was gone the next day.

I've had it pretty damn easy, the worst pain I've ever felt is when I sprained my ankle when I was about 12, fairly painful but not thought suppressing painful by any means. I would say I have a pretty high pain threshold though, I was always good at the chicken style pain games kids used to play, like 'mercy'.

Sounds to me like food poisoning or some kind of stomach bug, not a fun experience.

I think my hangovers are the worst I have ever felt. Worse than any sickness I can remember having.

An infected tooth - the pain would come in waves and when it came it was the worst I've ever felt. It was quite badly infected.

OT: Never really had a serious debilitating illness but the worst physical pain I've ever felt was the time I broke my ankle. At the time I figured it was just a bad sprain and didn't worry about it too much although looking back I think I just wanted to avoid hospital.

Anyways, got hold of an old crutch to use, not knowing that the bottom of it was kinda worn. Stood up with it, it slipped out from under my and I ended up putting my entire weight on the freshly broken ankle. Ugh...still get goosebumps when I think of how much that hurt. My sister said later on that she'd never heard anyone scream so loudly.

Hmm food based would be the time my Flight in the Air Force was given MRE's that had expired, yes they do not last forever. In our case only the cheese packets was bad, there was a sticker on the box saying don't eat the cheese but the idiots that threw them out to us didnt bother to read it or tell anyone if they did. So all of us who ate the cheese packets got severe food poisoning to the point that 6 people were med-evaced out and had thier stomachs pumped. I still remember drinking the charcoal like liquid they gave us to supposedly help. At its worse I was literally crawling on the ground on all 4's sweating and shivering at the same time. I took off my helmet and dug a little trench in front of me to puke in and I laid on the ground for about an hour before anyone found me, too weak to move. Puking from one end and shitting my pants from the other. I ended up getting 3 liters of IV literally forced into me by the nurses, they squeezed 2 bags into me really fast and then let one go in on the highest drip setting there was. Good times that.

Physical pain would be when my artificial knee joint dislocated and one of the implant pieces moved in my femur while I was playing paintball. I planted my right foot and turned to shoot around a bunker. Well my knee decided it wanted to turn as well so all I heard was a pop! and then I was on my back literally screaming in pain. Everyone thought I had gotten shot in the eye through my goggles so they raced over and covered my face. Not noticing that my boot was perpendicular to the ground while my thigh was in a normal upright position. Had to ride a bouncy ass golf cart almost 1/2 mile to get to a place where the ambulance could get to, I only blacked out twice. They ended up having to insert a longer rod into my bone and cement it in to get past the damaged bone.

Once when I was little, I was climbing some rocks at a beach I fell and nearly tore open my back. I was honestly scared I would die then.

try having 5 broken teeth. yeah, ouch. had to spend half an hour in blinding pain, whilst people who had conditions that weren't half as bad as mine got treated first. on the upside, i was gassed out, and the dentist was a nice guy, and it was all good afterwards. but still that's easily the worst pain ever. i acquired that unfortunate injury after tripping and smashing my mouth on a curb, which gave me a bruise which made opening my mouth painful for about a week afterwards.

that wasn't a very good day.

I had a fairly nasty bone infection when I was very young. 3 or 4, so the hospital and the operation I needed are some of my very first memories. I was little enough and weak enough they were worried about anesthesia... so I wasn't put under for the operation. I was given a local. To be fair my leg was numb... I did not feel any pain. But I could feel pressure on my tibia as they scraped this metal tool over it. I did pass out, not from pain (couldn't really feel it) but the tickle pressure was accompanied by this unbearable scraping/screech. Like 10X worse than the worst fingernails on a chalkboard you've ever heard.

Some things affect you worse than pain.

I once broke my thumb in a way that got it bend 90°. the doc had to pull it back into a straight shape and I dont think the painkillers propperly kicked in. felt like she was ripping it off. besides that I went through some stuff people would think is painful, to find out its not as terrible and the story with my thumb stays #1.
