I got elastics fitted onto my braces today. When I ate earlier today, it was okay: my bottom teeth hurt a bit, but it was manageable.

After keeping the elastics on for about 3-4 hours though...holy shit my teeth went numb :X

Hopefully this won't persist and my treatment will soon be over. In the meantime, do you have any stories relating to teeth/braces/etc. ? How were braces(if any) for you?

I had braces before and I hated them. I had spacers put in for my molars before the braces were put in but this made it hurt when I put any pressure on them. But sweet lord they were only in for a week. After the braces were put in it felt like my mouth hated me every time a new wire was put in. Even typing this sends a shiver down my spine.

Well I had some extra metal wire inbetween the canine and molar teeth (they were apart) when I had my braces but one day they can off but still attack to the brace. The inside of my mouth was pretty much wreck cos the tips pretty much tear into my flesh (not as bad as it sound). So I pretty much had to called in to get it fixed before my apointment and yet this somehow warrant a delay to those who got their appointments. Overall it only took a few second for the dentist to just take it out!

Overall I was fine with my braces for the most part, it when they tighten it that was annoying since it hurt my teeth.

My advices are when they are tighten it, just eat soft related food only so no steak or cucumber.

Be careful when eating your vegetable so chew more! Last thing you want is almost being choke cos the letture you thought you swollow got stuck in your braces!!

I've never had braces but I've had a lot of problems with my teeth. I don't eat a lot of sugar or anything and I take care of them, so it always seemed a bit unfair.

I've had three root canals, wisdom tooth pulled, one wisdom tooth to be pulled, molar pulled, untold number of fillings, fissure seals... That's all I got for now. XD

I'm tempted to voluntarily get braces. My teeth aren't particularly crooked but I have one fang tooth that I hate.

Braces were a pain in the ass. Thankfully I didn't eat much of what they told me not to anyway, otherwise I would've had them for longer. Rubber bands on top of those things though... Hate is too kind for what's in my head now.

I had a VERY competent dentist that said she had removed all the necessary teeth when I was a kid, but forgot one. So my "upper fang tooth"(?) didn't come out and stayed all confy and warm inside my mouth. I had not only to use bracers, but there was a little wire conecting the bracer to the teeth through my gum. (Also, the dentist had to cut my mouth to put the wire inside a hole on the tooth).

Part of it was my fault I admit, my fear of dentists made me delay the treatment as much as I could. But I still remember, on the first day the doctor said "Well, your teeth will hurt a bit during the first days, so don't eat anything hard.". Two hours later I tried to eat bread, and proceeded to cry like a little spoiled girl who didn't get a pony for Christmas.

Had all my wisdom teeth pulled. I have a phobia of needles, so when I was getting injections in my mouth pre extraction, my legs shook so bad the dentist had to stop twice and wait for me to calm down. It's silly, but it was uncontrollable. He ended up giving me more than the normal ammount just to make sure I couldn't feel anything. Afterwards I drove to a buddies house and fell asleep on his couch, where I proceeded to drool blood all over myself while I slept. When his mom found me later she nearly had a heart attack, thinking I was dead.

I had exactly that! I had to have the canine milk tooth pulled out quite late, but they had to wire the brace up like you've described to pull down the adult tooth into the correct position. It looks all messed up, a big hole in your gum, and now that one tooth looks really long because the gum is very slightly receded.

I don't remember much pain because I had mine done under general anaesthetic. I do remember my legs crumpling when I got off the bed all doped up, and I hit the floor like a sack of shit.
Oh, the surgery was fine, my dentist now is really good. The pain was because of the bracers, my teeth were kind of soft, and when I bit the bread, it was like they were all pushed in. But yeah, the canine now gets aaaall the atention when I smile too. I think the worst part was trying to drink water when half of your mouth feels it and the other half is drooling.

I used to work with a guy that had really fucked up teeth that were all black and gross.
We started calling him 'black tooth' actually which is a bit mean I think in hindsight but that's what happens when you don't brush and eat shit food.

Anyway he had about 90% of his teeth removed in the end, he's only 34 or something.
He hasn't had false ones made up yet either which is quite odd.

I've never had any trouble with my teeth. I haven't had them checked for a few years now, but not feeling anything different so I am assuming they're fine :p
A few friends have had bracers for short periods of time when we were kids but nothing special going on in that department either.

Oh man. My toothstory:

I went to the dentist as a young boy
My Father: "And does he need braces?"
Dentist: "Nah, all ok, let's see how it looks in half a year"

Half a year later:
My Father: "So, doc, how does it look?"
Dentist: "Eh, we can't do anything, it's too late - looks like the teeth might stay crooked forever now"

Also: Never went to the dentist after i became an adult. Teeth so far ok, but i am nearing 35 so... maybe soon "IT" will begin.

I had top-only braces for a year and a half. It was annoying, but I never snapped the wire or needed elastics. WOOT. Now I just deal with a nightly (ahahahaha) retainer.

I do wonder about stuff like this. I have really bad habits both in dental care and what I eat, yet none of my teeth have ever reached that kind of state. (and I'm not young, so it's not as simple as "hasn't happened yet")

The worst thing to happen in my mouth is one of my teeth kind of slowly wore away. It had a filling in it that came out, which I ignored until much later, and yet it never went black or 'rotten', just the enamel slowly wore away over a long time. And when I did get it checked, It was too stubborn to be removed, so it had to be done surgically.

Everyone likes to tell me horror stories about what can happen if you don't care for your teeth, but It never seems to happen.

And then I hear a story like this and wonder what the difference is between my teeth and the rotten ones people like that end up with...

I was offered braces by my dentist and decided I didn't want them. I have crooked bottom front teeth that I am quite proud of.
