So the teaser trailer for Pacific Rim 2 just came out. I'm excited about it because I enjoyed the first one. Yeah, I know it has problems and is kind of dumb, but Honest Trailers sums up my feelings on it perfect: "The Most Awesome Dumb Movie Ever Made...or the Dumbest Awesome Movie Ever Made."

So yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. Hopefully this time the other Jaegers won't go out like a bunch of punks and we'll get to see multiple fights at once. I also noticed that they are being smart and giving swords to more Jaegers, since swords are clearly the bane of the Kaiju (I still believe that the reason no one had one before the end was because there were no Japanese pilots yet, but that's just me).

Anyone else get a stupid smile on their face when they watched the new trailer?

Well, I think I saw the official one. Not sure what they are "uprising" against, but I mean, that "commercial" style they used was pretty neat.

I'd like to actually see a plot specific one before I really have anything to say on the matter.

he originally wanted to, but there was some financial problems between Legendary and Universal. But when Legendary was bought out by a chinese company it was re-lit because the chinese fucking loved Pacific Rim

But, Guillermo del Toro isn't directing it (he gave it up sometime this feb), he's just a producer and wrote the original script that apparently has like 3 writers attached to it now

so...

*shrugs*
Alright now it's confirmed that it will take place in China and the main cast will mostly be Chinese.

Sorry wtf the was that? I mean yeah I was glad that Glados was back but it then went in to extreme public service announcement propaganda bullshit and it was just awful. Well it was a teaser so hopefully the proper trailers will be much much better.

Hopefully this time they don't immediately kill off all the interesting ones to focus on Blandy McWhitebread and his Boringbot.

I don't like it. They look like Power Rangers now. The whole vibe of Jaegers was giant, slow, heavy, ponderous robots. It defeats the purpose if they're just as fast as humans. Why bother with giant robots anyway?! Just make another Power Rangers movie

I with the OP! I can forgive the many flaw it had due to the awesome action scene! It was my favourite Summer movie of 2013!!

So yeah, I am HYPE for the sequel (it better not follow the Transformers 2 sequel of suckness!).

Kind of looks like it's supposed to be an in universe propaganda piece. Not bad, I do like the designs of the Jaegers, but I have to echo concerns about them being a little too fast and fluid as well as things looking a little low res. Still, like I said, I think it's supposed to be an in universe propaganda piece, so hopefully this won't reflect the final product (though starting with this was a bit if a misstep.)

Well according to the description of the video these are Model VI Jeagers, and in the previous movie the Jeager models stopped at V (in fact there was only ever one Model V, Striker Eureka) So in terms of setting we at least know it's taking place after the first movie and that the Jeager program is getting rebooted. Presumably after the walls they were building A. turned out to be about as sturdy as bread and B. humanity learned that flying Kaijus exist.

What I'm curious about is this:

Is this trailer the in world equivalent of a Starship Troopers-esque PSA? Or is it the equivalent of a BMW commercial?

It feels a bit like both, some kind of corporate, sleek presentation of their new model of product. Perhaps "Uprising" is the brand name for the model, like a Honda Accord, it's the Jaeger Uprising. And this is literally a commercial for people to buy one, like a car.

Or, is it some kind of "drum up pilots" kind of trailer, for the military? That they are now using them to fight other countries perhaps, or perhaps use them in extra-planetary exploration.

But why us the term Uprising? I mean, using the term "uprising" implies this is the fringe element of the society, the rebels or insurgents. But this is a slick commercial, so maybe not.

It's very confusing as to what they are trying to convey with this trailer, so I don't know. I has a confused.

I'm getting a Starship Troopers vibe from the PSA nature of the piece, sure.

Guh, I hope some of the the new Kaiju are waaay bigger than the last round of them. I found the biggest of the first movie were only marginally more imposing than the rest... and I want some giant, kick-ass monsters to rip us apart.

I'm hoping that it's the Kaiju that will be "uprising".
