I'm really surprised that I have not seen a speck of excitement from anyone about Pacific Rim! Maybe I didn't search hard enough but I think the most we got was a peep out of MovieBob a couple of months ago and some murmurs about GLADOS being in it...besides that...nada.

Maybe everyone's under their pillows saying 'pleasedontsuck' repeatedly whilst they wait for Man of Steel...or in a state of stunned awe-struck epiphany.

Keen to get some input. How dyou guys think it'll do? Will it be good?

Until then..enjoy :)

I think it is just because most people (myself included) think this movie looks like absolute shit. I won't immediatly write it off solely because it is being made by Guillermo del Toro and that man is very good at his job (usually) but the entire premise just seems like an attempt to cash in on all the money the Transformers have been inexplicably making, and all in all the whole idea of it just seems dumb. Not to mention, do you remember the last time giant robots fought giant monsters?

I'm not trying to convince you not to watch it, I'm just throwing out the honest reason why I think nobodies really talking about this movie.

It's a movie. What's to get excited about?

That's not to say it will be a bad movie. Giant robots fighting giant monsters directed by Guillermo del Toro? I'm up for that. I expect it will be a thoroughly entertaining 90 minutes or so. But that's all it will be. Visually impressive and entertaining.

Exactly how excited is one supposed get over 90 minutes of entertaining images?

Excited enough that you might get to go out and have a fun night with a couple of friends, and perhaps a repeat viewing if you liked what you saw. Other than that, well, individual tastes, I suppose.

I'd watch it.

It reminds me of EVAs (totally didn't say the word bwahahaha), and I'd like to see the American take on that, though from the trailer and such it looks kinda... boring with a predictable plot. Nothing really new but regardless I'd like to watch it just for the sake of watching it.

It looks cool, but admittedly I'm MUCH more excited about the Godzilla reboot coming in 2014. Gonna be SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET. :p

Some of my friends and I are really excited to see how it turns out. I've read enough of the interviews with Del Toro to think that he has the right approach towards the film so I have my fingers crossed.

Guys, a giant robot smacks a monster in the face with a tanker and rocket punches another, I'd watch it just for that.

A Del Toro movie about Mecha fighting giant monsters will be an amazing cinema experience; a fun, straight-action movie to watch with friends in 3D IMAX.

Pacific Rim is my most anticipated film this year until I think of another.

Well, it's a lot of big overly rendered CGI stuff all over the screen - It's not something for me to get really excited about anymore. I saw the same thing in The Avengers and The Hobbit.

Really, what else is new?

Being that i was a huge Godzilla fan when i was younger you would think that i would be excited for it. But when i watched the trailer the only feeling i had was "eh seen this before pass".

I see a lot of snobbery in this thread.

I'm excited for it. I like Guillermo del Toro. I like mecha anime. I think it looks awesome. I can't say that's it gonna have a shitty plot or a great plot only judging by the trailers. The whole "melding minds" thing seems like it could be interesting. Nonetheless, I just hope it's gonna be great popcorn fun.

I was excited until I saw the trailer. A movie with stringer bell from the wire, glados from portal, remote control gundams fighting massive seamonsters, all directed by the guy that did pan's labyrinth... pure gold.

But that trailer was *awful.* It chalked it up to just a generic monster-romp with very little focus on characters or their journeys (which was a big part of what made pan's labyrinth, for example, such a gripping piece instead of simply a little girl wandering around CGI wonderland for a few hours). Hopefully the trailer was just the action scenes and none of the good parts, but... I'm not feeling it. I'm going to watch it anyway, since I'm a huge idris elba fanboi, but I'm not expecting it to be any good at all anymore.

Character focus is meh. They should completely cut out any characters and just make it 120 minutes of robots smashing monsters with tankers.

Let put it this way, I will definitely enjoyed it more than Oblivion and The Hangover Part 3, some of the films I have seen so far this past few months (my uncle has been a movie watcher lately which I get to tag along). Surely if it is a bad film, it can't be as bad as those two (sure I can expect it to look good but bad plot like Transformers but not Battleship)!
Either way I am definitely going to the cinema to see if even when my uncle won't be over to watch it.

"Go into Pacific Rim prepared to be transmogrified into a 12 year old. And then to pee your pants with joy. I love it so much."
The above quote was from someone who was part of the test screenings of this movie. Take it for what you will.

From the trailer the fight scenes look decent, if Transformer-ish. I do think there's a bit too much CGI, but then again people in giant robot/monster suits won't cut it. This should be at least a decent action film so long they have a good story backing it up, and while there's not much characterization in the trailer, knowing Del Toro's resume I think he should be able to pull this off. The GLaDOS voice is probably going to distract me for the entirety of the film; I don't see it as a necessity in this film and it's probably going to take me out of the atmosphere in parts of this movie. Aside from that...

...wait, is that Hong Kong? [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5guMumPFBag#t=1m43s]

Oh my god, that's fucking Hong Kong.

Okay, I'm getting my wallet.
