Greetings community of the glorious Escapist forums!

First of all I'm a huge fan of Paradox games like Hearts of Iron or Europa Universalis because I simply love having the choice and freedom. I really enjoy the Total War series aswell but my question at this point is:

Are there more games of that kind?

Please point me in the right direction, Escapists!

Not quite the same, but I'll take any chance I can get to advertise this lil' gem: Solium Infernum

It's essentially a turn based strategy game where you play as a lord of hell fighting and squabbling to take control after the sudden absence of Lucifer. It's also damned brilliant, although the strange way things work take a bit of getting used to. For example you don't train units or make armies, you hire the various legions of hell to work as your mercenary, each of which has their own unique identity, strengths, weakness, backstory and awesome portrait!

The guide is also absolutely genius. link to part 1. Between that and the demo is how I learned to play! Fun too!

I went through their homepage right now and I think I'll check this one out as soon as I get home :)

Hope you enjoy.

Incidentally the genre you're looking for goes by a couple games. Grand Strategy and 4x and probably the most prominent titles. The Civilization series is the most obvious example of a 4x while Hearts of Iron is commonly called Grand Strategy. Personally I sorta lump em all together since I love em all.

Galactic Civilizations 2 is probably my personal favourite, with all the expansions included that is. It's just such a massive and vast strategy game that no two playthrough are alike and even the short-lived ones tend to be memorable. AI is especially good as well, which can often be a deal-breaker for these sorts of games. Pretty sure it just got a release on STEAM too, definitely worth looking into.

Crusader Kings 2 is supposed to also be really good, not quite like any of the above but worth mentioning nonetheless. Haven't played it myself yet although I intend to soon.

Thanks for the info! Of course, forgot to mention that I loved the Civilization series aswell.

I've heard of Galactic Civilizations but never tried time, maybe I should give it a shot.
I tried Crusader Kings 2 for a while and had a good time playing it, it isn't really a game that can keep me attracted for a long timespan tough. I can recommend it if you're into games of this sort nonetheless!
