SMCMCraft is a project sponsored by St. Mary?s College of Maryland and approved by the college's institutional review board. The project revolves around the use of a Minecraft server as an experimental testing environment. The study requires a number of volunteer participants who play on the same multiplayer Minecraft map for an extended period of time. This iteration will take place over the course of a single day.

The map is contained within a wall of indestructible bedrock, which prevents additional land from generating. Thanks to the bedrock wall, land and certain resources are finite. The map itself has been modified specifically for this experiment. The geography is far different from what you might be used to. Resources are not where you'd usually find them.
If you enjoy Minecraft, social simulations, or simply want to try something new, submit an application to become a participant through the link below.

EDIT: This skirts the line between content and advertising. Given that this is for academia rather than ad-views, I'm inclined to leave it open.
For future reference, anyone planning such a thread should talk to the moderation team before posting, as this is the sort of thing that could easily fall into advertisement.
That aside, let's also use this space to talk a little about using video games as experimental platforms. Do you think video games serve a good platform for experimenting, and can data acquired from play be useful when applied to real world scenarios? -Mod
