I'm looking at building a new PC soon , this will be my second, but before that I wanted to learn a few more things. What do you feel more PC gamers should have in their rigs and what to you wish would just go away. The two topics that prompted this idea was water cooling and sli/crossfire gold or gimmick?

[Edit] After reading DoPo's response I have realized I have not worded my question properly. What I would like to know more about other peoples experiences with PC build. Example semi-modular power supply just means not-modular this is something I only learned about as I was building my rig. Gold of gimmick just has a nice ring to it.

Umm there is a single answer here: "neither and both". Well, two, actually, as "both and neither" is also absolutely valid.

Neither of this is a must have requirement, neither of these is also an absolute gimmick. Have an old-er gen but high end card? Well, it might be a cheaper upgrade to slot another one and run both in tandem. If you're running older but overclockable hardware, another cheap upgrade option is...well, overclocking. Which increases the heat output, and where water cooling comes in as a smart investment.

I seriously can't see how of these can only be a must or only a gimmick. And price/performance is not even the only measure here - if one person thoroughly dislikes noise and puts on water cooling for that, how is that either gold or gimmick in the wider case? For the person, it's certainly a requirement, most other people and entirely optional feature.
