Windows XP? Fuck, you should upgrade to windows 2000. As much as Vista was hated, it was a decent operating system[footnote]Assuming you had high end hardware, I'm told that the recommended system specs were about as useful as a seeing eye mole[/footnote][footnote]Users had to be sufficiently competent to turn the UAC facism off, anyone without enough intelligence to work out how probably shouldn't be allowed outside unsupervised[/footnote], windows 7 is basically a better version. It properly supports 64bit, it's sufficiently different/improved from the version before it, so even if you were running vista, it would probably be worth upgrading (especially if you have installed new hardware). If you can afford Ultimate, that's the obvious win, I suppose pro or home premium below that, I don't really know which one is the less brutally hacked apart version, but whichever one lets you take ownership of files is good (it's fucking painful when it won't let you access the files on your own computer/another computer because they are hidden behind another user).
