PC gaming is dead to me now.

About seven years ago if you were to ask me if I was a PC gamer, I'd stand tall and arrogant waving a flag and say "yes" then go on to denounce console gaming for its inferiority and pretty much say anything else imaginable that would embarrass the crap out of me today. But over the years I've slowly and surely moved away from PC, starting around the time the PS3 dropped in price to something reasonable, and now I won't even buy "must buy only" games for the PC such as Skyrim and such.

I try to think back to why this has happened and today after spending eight hours pulling my hair trying to get games on steam to work I've realized why.

The truth is, I just can't take it anymore.

Call me lazy, call me even stupid for not trying hard enough, say that it's all my fault, but honestly, I don't care anymore. I'm sick and tired of trying to fix this problem or that. Tired of it being my PC's fault the game doesn't work. Tired of my anti virus freezing up the game. Or having to re-install my sound card to get sound to work in Bioshock (which hasn't done it).

I am just sick and tired of spending all day, all fucking day on this forum and that, sometimes going on weeks trying to hunt down that one stupid reason a game isn't working when it should.

Today, every fucking game on my Steam library wasn't working. After five hours of trying to figure out what was going on and nearly deciding to reformat my PC (again for the 3rd time this month) I find out Steam has been down with certain clients and had decided not to let anyone know. I had to find out about this in some back alley of the google search engine after the 17 page. So, fuck you PC gaming. I have my Xbox 360, I have my PS3. SWTOR ended up sucking anyways no thanks to it being a rip off clone to an MMO that's over seven years old and shouldn't matter anymore. And since Diablo 3 isn't coming to any console, I say I care less to that too.

I'm done, thank you really for nothing but years and years worth of head aches...So long, farewell, good.....fucking.....bye

Wow, that felt....GOOD! XD

You do know that being a console gamer is an embarrassment. And you will be thrown in with the crowds of frat-boy CoD players, and be despised by pretty much everyone.

Also, who uses a sound card anymore?

EDIT: Apparently some people can see this post as what it is...a joke; apparently others cannot, you can stop replying to me now.

My first reaction: If so many games are having so many problems, then there is something very wrong with your computer. I can't say I have had that experience. I regularly update my drivers, and keep things up to date, which isn't much of a bother. The only times I have problems is when I try something that has more risk than payoff, or when a game is officially unstable.

I don't blame you for not trying anymore. But if you have the resources, get a new one. Now I'm assuming your said computer is seven years old, that's a long time for any electronic piece of equipment. Sometimes getting new is the only option.

Me, it's necessary for music and hearing footsteps.

Like I said, you guys can call me a PC half wit if you want. Tar and feather me, drag me to center of town square and have little children and e-trolls throw peanuts and rocks at me for their amusement. I don't care.

Fuck PC gaming, I quit. Oh and I mean my Realtek driver for Bioshock, just isn't....you know, I'm not even going to go there..lol

But dedicated sound cards aren't needed anymore...they only serve to waste money and space inside your computer. I opted for a second video card. (which was a mistake and i'm never going SLI ever again)

You know for me it's the complete opposite. I owned all 3 of the major consoles...each of them broke, the 360 3 separate times.

My old computer, (6 years) gave me it's fair share of problems..but thats expected from tech that old. My new pc, not a single problem in sight. *knock on wood* I'm disheartened that someone is leaving pc gaming in favor on consoles. Because they are old tech that is holding the gaming industry back, it's time to move on. Come on Xbox 720p

It would probably take up space if it wasn't just a regular PCI but a PCI Express x16.

Anyway, it makes my music and movies sound incredible, I've compared it to my mobo and USB sounds. Footsteps, maybe not such a factor anymore.

But Noman, I'm just telling you my thoughts, go ahead and quit. But you posted it in a discussion forum, I'm discussing it.

That's exaclty why I don't play PC games either. I always run into some issue whether minor or major that takes hours of googling to find a solution that someone found on some forum. And, I'm very knowlegdeable about PCs too, I have a Bachelor's in computer networking. I'd rather just pop the game into my PS3, sit on my recliner in front of my TV, invert the y-axis, and get to playing right away without any tweaking. I kinda love tweaking everything on my PC too; I hacked and edited the shell32.dll file on Windows XP for the purpose of changing all my icons. But, when it comes to games, I just want to play. Plus, I hate using a keyboard for movement because keyboards are digital and not analog like an analog stick.

^^^ All of that right there. I cannot begin to count off how many times I've tried playing a game on Steam that either A. I just downloaded and there was already a problem. B. Had worked fine the other day and suddenly said something or other was missing/error/not found.

I just want to shoot something, I don't want to have to sift through two year old forum threads to find the answer.

This is going to be a nice big cuddly friendly sort of thread. I can tell.

Funny thing. I play on a PC despite knowing bugger all about PCs in general. And yet I rarely experience any of the troubles that other people describe.

Everytime I see a thread like this it makes me think I'm a genius or something for having a pc that works. I started out gaming on pc's when I was 13 WITHOUT ANY HELP. I lived through a time when games were swiped around of floppy disks and when the internet connection was through some crappy modem. Despite this, I taught myself basic stuff about my pc. I don't know every nut and bolt, I don't know everything about the OS I'm using but with the help of the internet(especially today when help is so readily available) I get stuff done pretty quickly.

It's not that hard to have a setup that works. Get a decent antivirus, update your drivers(and despite what console owners will tell you this is something that you have to do maybe once every 2 months) and you're good to go. Personally I blame this kind of attitude on superficiality, a growing trend today. Don't say it's because you don't have time(I HAVE TO PLAY NOW!!!) because I work 8 hours a day + another hour or so to get home. Yet I manage to game almost every day.

The actual "hard" part of pc gaming is assessing whether a game will work on your hardware but even so, today's kids have it good, really good. There are numerous websites that give you an approximation based on basic or recommended configurations for game x, in my time you had to wing it since many of us didn't even have internet at that time.

I don't work in IT, I don't write code, most stuff I can do in my computer is pretty damn basic and yet I rarely have problems running games. And even then, it usually takes me MINUTES to find the solution on the internet. I think that people that are naturally very lazy(not just lazy, I am lazy myself and yet I rarely have trouble with my machine) should stay away from pc gaming.

Finally someone gets it!
I was truly hoping my assumption you were just using satire was correct.

Of course, why wouldn't it? We gamers are such a tolerant and understanding people.

Then Steam has a personal vendetta against me or something. Everything but the original Half-Life I've got on Steam has had some sort of error message. Some have different ones every now and then as well.

I've been playing PC games for quite some time and I've had my own PC for gaming for a few years. I've learned a lot by troubleshooting and reading up on things on my own. I have had a few issues here and there, but I consider that part of the learning process. It's a shame you have had issue upon issue.

My ride has been quite smooth and my experience gets better and better the more I learn and play around with the technology.

Just my 2c.

Same here. I rarely face bugs on the PC and I've only encountered two or so bugs in Skyrim so far.

It really differs for everyone. And strange, whatever I typed into the text-box kept disappearing. Oh the irony!

There must be something very wrong with your computer for every game to give you huge problems. I very rarely run into problems with running games, biggest issue I've had was Fallout 3 freezing constantly because it doesn't like quad core CPUs. Changing a couple of lines in an ini file fixed that problem. Took me all of 15 minutes to find that solution. Most of the problems I do run into come from developer laziness, constantly releasing buggy or unfinished games. I would understand your frustration if you were trying to run games through WINE on Linux, where things are very much touch and go, and there is no guarantee everything will work properly, but it isn't rocket science to play a game on Windows.

In any case, have fun with the increasingly outdated technology that can only barely run today's games at an acceptable framerate, even when lots of extra effort is put into optimizing the code. At the very least you're using the console that doesn't burn itself out inside of 2 years because someone decided an adequate cooling solution was not cost effective. Say what you will about the PC, at least it can cool itself properly, and it is easier to replace parts if you do get catastrophic hardware failure.

If you find it too much of a chore to maintain PC gaming in the first place you probably shouldn't have made the move in the first place. PC Gaming isn't the same as a dedicated console, but in my opinion is worth the effort. And to be honest i dont think ive ever had a serious problem with my rig, and noone i know has had a problem with theirs, i know quite a few people who are active pc gamers and they also have very few problems, infact i know someone who runs up-to-date games on a pc that cost £50 about 4 years ago with the only major update to it being a second hand graphics card.

No problem.

I guess I was never "really" into PC gaming...I do prefer it though (mouse and keyboard FTW) but it wasnt the problems that caused me to get a console (because they arnt 100% reliable eather)

it was more the fact that digital distribution was becoming main model..which doesnt really work for me and the rediculous DRM and so many games I wanted to play but couldnt

I didnt have that many technical issues...

I think PC gaming is great..console gaming shits me in some ways..

but seriously I have Vailid reasons for going console...some reasons that outweigh the Idea of really getting into PC gaming (I will somtime in the future perhaps the next gen)...and FUCK ME its amazing that some PC gamers just cant understand it

which is why they also have their fair share of haters...being so smug and arrogant when theres no good reason
