PC Help Please! Updated May 13th

So I've got a problem. My PC decided to crap out on my (and right now I'm relegated to the laptop). But here's how it is:

It turns on just fine. Fans whir, the NB power light is on the Motherboard and my CPU gets hot (as I found out). However I get no response on screen, also as insignificant as it seems the 'power on' light on the front of my case isn't on (my beautiful blue power light). I don't get any beeps and I'm not gettin a POST.

I have a feeling it's my motherboard but I'm not 100% sure, I've had PCI slots short before. But can anyone more hardware savvy nail down what it might be?

Thanks in advance. I'm worried about swapping out parts in case it is the motherboard and it's feeling homicidal.

Okay guys, so here's the new shit. A new motherboard and GPU later and still no results. I'm not getting a display on my lovely HD monitor or my old matchbox monitor. I've swapped out RAM, power supplies, cables, and GPUs. Am I so fucking unlucky that my components are DOA? The only thing I haven't been able to check is the CPU. I don't have the equipment to test it and I don't have a AM3 socket mobo with onboard VGA to test it with. But the thing gets fucking hot so it's doing something.

Can any PC buffs help me out here with even a suggestion?

are you getting anything on your screen at all? if your lucky then the connector might just be loose or its possible that the backlight on your monitor went out or your vid card might be bad

Guessing here, but maybe unplugging it, waiting a minute, then plugging it back in may help.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago.Try letting the cpu cool down,it worked for me.I also wiped the cmos,but I dont think its necessary.

Hmm, that fact that the fans are whirring does seem to imply that its not a Power issue. My first suggestion would be open the machine clean and reseat all the power connections in the computer. The lack of a POST is not a good sign however. You can try testing your component in another compute (video card, ram) but none of those should stop the POST. a failure in POST is usually a sign of a faulty motherboard

If it is a motherboard issue, i would recommend looking into a bare bones computer so you can still use the other working parts of your machine

Also try resetting your bios, if you have the manual for your motherboard there should be a detailed explination on how to do this. the symptoms resemble a grounding issue, check all the mounting screws on the motherboard itself to ensure the board is properly grounded. Unfortunately if either of these don't fix it, there is a good chance your computer has committed suicide and if that is the case, that sucks.

Turns on, nothing appears on screen: Motherboard or monitor.

It's probably your motherboard. Are you sure all the connections are secure?

Oh yeah, my monitor is flicking between analogue, digital and HDMI and finally settling on telling me to check my connection. I've tried an alternate Video Card so it doesn't seem to be that.

I'd just got done putting two new fans in and I'd given it a once over a few days back. I've been running it without issue since then. I'll try reseating everything but I don't have a computer with a compatible motherboard to test with, the other is an obscure board in an old Packard Bell.

I'd just really like to know I've got the issue identified so I know which part(s) I'll be needing to replace.

ok if its doing that then its probably a dead mobo but I would test the videocard and ram too just incase its something weird with one of those

Thank you guys for all your help, now one final request...

I'm going to replace the motherboard in hope that's the real problem. So can anyone help find me a decent replacement for my board? I had an Asus AM3 M4A77TD Pro. Now I'm crap at shopping for boards, but as long as it's AM3, DDR3 and Crossfire enabled then I'll be damn happy.

I Had a similar problem, is your monitor a high resolution monitor? if so, go to a low resolution monitor, see if that helps.

I tried this and with the same result, monitor just goes into standby.

Are you getting any beep sequences when it boots? (1 beep usually means it's fine, a sequence means theres an issue and you should check manual).

You should first go barebone (1 stick ram, processor, motherboard) if you get it displaying "no operating system found" or similar then add all your ram and try again, then add your hard drives, and then finally your GPU and try again (if you have more cards then add those seperately too) this is the sure way to figure out whats wrong.

I doubt it's your CPU as the new motherboard would tell you theres an issue with it (thats what POST is for), have you checked that the video cable is plugged in securely on the back of the monitor and tower (might sound stupid but you'd be surprised how often they come lose when not screwed in.

oh also you did put the motherboard on the spacers right? not just planting it the case... again you'd be surprised (my friend did this and he's a network expert just never built a pc before..)

and another thing i forgot, are you sure you plugged in everything (power cables for GPU if needed?)?
