World of warcraft is the world's bestselling MMO for a reason. It may destroy some peoples' lives but a smooth learning curve, intriguing lore and social atmosphere make it bearable at some points.

Aion is coming out soon, and by what it looks like, it is going to obliterate World of Warcraft. Also, Star Wars: The Old Republic comes relatively soon, so I'd look into that. World of Warcraft will be hard to get into now, because of the fact that it is the middle of the third expansion.

City of Villains/Heroes is the only MMO I have ever enjoyed. Stay the hell away from WoW though, most boring game I have ever played and I have played Poke'mon.

City of Heroes is good aswell. I always picked flight as my travel power.

Don't mix up MMORPGs and just plain MMOs. Multiplayer online games include TF2 and most game's multiplayer modes. MMOFPSs and such?

Or am I seeing a difference that isn't there?

Whatever you do, don't get Hellgate: London

I'm pretty sure every single MMO that comes out after WoW has been predicted to obliterate it. Guess what, nothing is going to destroy WoW for at least five years. I guarantee that.

SW:TOR hasn't had an announced date.

Yes, but I've seen the gameplay footage, and some of my friends had tried out the beta. They all said that it was much better than World of Warcraft, and is incredibly good.
And I know about SW:TOR, which is why I said relatively. If they've been announcing classes it's bound to come out sooner or later.

I don't get it. How is WoW hard to get into? You just start a new character and start playing.

Play Warhammer Online until SWTOR comes out. That will be the game that claims the title of MMO king. I suggest Warhammer online because it is the only MMO that I can stand at the moment.

Well, most of the people that play WoW are already a high level. The amount of people you will find willing to run instances as a group is lingering, which, unless you have friends that will play with you, it is harder to get into than other MMO's.

I disagree. Alot of MMO's have tons of high level players. And I've played WoW and I've gotten into instances lots of times with a level 20. But I guess these are just experience things.

What's your point? The majority of WoW's fanbase is made of die-hards who will stay to WoW or just not bother to look it up.

They probably would've announced the release date at E3. Either that, or Bioware/EA has a conference that I don't know about at the moment. My guess is that SW:TOR doesn't come out for another year.
