Hello, I have played TF2 for the 360 for several weeks now. I switched over to the PC, and I find the controls akward and spaced out. Have any of you had this problem with PC controls? Have you done anything to fix it? Or, did you just get used to it?

P.S. My Steam TF2 name is Leeroy59, and I need some friends. :D

I don't really understand. Awkward and spaced out?

Could you explain a bit more?

How do you find the controls spaced out? There's movement (WASD), jump (space), crouch (control), attacks (mouse buttons or number keys), aim (the mouse), switch weapons (scroll wheel), and call medic (E). That puts everything movement related right near where most gamers have their left hand and all things weapon related on the mouse.

Maybe some things like specific in-game calls ("Need a dispenser", "X is a Spy") are oddly placed, but you can use your own voice for those if you have a mic.

By akward and spaced out I mean this: WASD, E,and R are all fine, they're close. M,Y,U, seem to be far, I play on a laptop, and have a mouse, which makes it difficult. The 360 controller seems to be set up better, IMO. I'm sure as I play, and get better they'll become easier, but for now, they're clunky.

Y and U are used for chat. They're not supposed to be close to the other buttons. You don't want to accidentally press them when you're playing.

M? That key isn't used for anything. The closest key to it would be Y, U, or V.

Mouse? Makes it difficult? Really? What do you mean? Is your sensitivity low so you have to do several swipes in order to do turns?

I understand how a switch from a controller to a keyboard can be a real jump. I had trouble adapting to the controls too (The orange box is my first PC FPS, almost all of my other games are console games), but if you stick with it for a bit then the controls will become as second nature as a controller. (Also, I think the mouse really helps a lot with aiming and makes movement smother). It took me literally over a hundred hours to really get comfortable with the controls (and another hundred to not always be the worst on the team).

Are you sure? Default for me was "," changed class and "." changed team. Maybe that's what your N does.

Edit: Never mind, class item. I'll learn to read some day. Some day...

Ahh that's right.

That shouldn't be a major issue, though, as you're not meant to change classes on the fly. Mainly when you're dead or in spawn, when you're safe.

I think the best thing you can do is to play Portal for a bit if you have it. It's a more movement based game that doesn't use anything other than WASD, space, control, and both mouse buttons. If you don't have that then I'd 100% recommend playing as a sniper in TF2. It will force you to get used to the mouse as an aimer and it will show you how insanely accurate you can actually be.

Also, if you want to change any of the controls, you can in the in game options. Something like Options>Controls in the main menu. I would recommend keeping the chat and class changing and item changing keys to the defaults. Those are pretty universal keys in all modern FPS.

Another thing you could do would be to play the scout since it's a movement based class that relies partially on twitch aiming.

It's odd seeing someone say that keyboard controls are clunky though. I still have problem with console FPS controls every now and again and I've been playing them for a long, long time now.
