But not only are they still here after all these years...they seem to be one of the few who seem to remember what games are supposed to be about;

Fun

Because I just looked at my games collection again tonight, and if it weren't for the spam of games currently sitting on my PC, not only would my Wii U outnumber my Xbox One and PC in games, but if it wasn't for Heroes of the Storm and Master Chief Collection, my Wii U and 3DS would be my most *played* systems as well.

For my Xbox One;

Master Chief Collection (An HD update of Halo 1 - 4)
Destiny (I originally got it for 360, which means I got the Xbox One version for free)
Dead or Alive 5
Dragon Age: Inquisition
AC4: Black Flag
AC: Unity
Minecraft

For my Wii U:

Splatoon
Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate (Basically the Wii + 3DS version combined with new features for the Wii U)
Wind Waker HD
Bayonetta 2
Mario Kart 8
Super Mario 3D Land
Super Smash Bros. 4

3DS:
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate
Pokemon: Alpha Sapphire

Currently installed PC games:

Starcraft II
Hearthstone
Diablo 3
Heroes of the Storm
Skyrim
Bioshock Infinite
CS: GO (Rarely played)
Metro: Last Light
TF2
Beyond Earth
Sins of a Solar Empire
XCOM: Enemy Unknown/Within

If uninstalled the games I'm done with on PC, Infinite, Skyrim, Sins and CS: GO could probably go.

As for pure fun? That probably has to go to the Wii U and 3DS hands down. Its not that the games on the other systems aren't *fun*...but not much has gotten me to have as much fun as MH4U, Bayonetta 2 and Mario Kart 8 so far this gen.

DA:I is a great game, DoA 5 is fun, Heroes is fun and its awesome to replay the old Halo games but still, I still find more longing to play another hunt in MH or go race in Mario Kart 8 than play most other games this gen.

And as far as games out/coming out that I want for the systems, Nintendo is ahead by a a decent amount.

For Wii U/3DS -

Legend of Zelda Wii U
Hyrule Warriors
Xenoblade Chronicles
Fire Emblem: Black and White
Bravely Default
A Link Between Worlds
Mighty No. 9

For PC/Xbox One:

Halo 5
The Division
Witcher 3
Crackdown
Middle Earth: Shadows of Mordor
Legacy of the Void

Everyone keeps harping on Nintendo for not bringing the best graphics or for being "kiddie"; but has anyone stopped to think hey, maybe that isn't the point? Maybe just good, entertaining gameplay is? I mean, we are playing *games* people - hating on something just because it's E or T doesn't make much sense.

the problem a lot of people have with nintendo these days is their very, very archaic approach to business practices. The Nintendo Creator's Program is a prime example of this. Yes, they're legally allowed to do what they're doing, but other companies recognize the benefit of let's plays, etc, for raising awareness as well as showing 'this is fun'.

You can hardly blame people for finding something being too kiddy. Maybe that's not what their cup of tea is, they really just don't find that kind of game fun. I know that I wouldn't enjoy that Pikmin thing because I just can't stand the noises they make.

Besides, the only real hate that Nintendo gets right now are for their bullshit business decisions and the failure of the WiiU in the third party game department.

That's not what I shit on Nintendo for.

I have the best memories from Nintendo since I grew up with them and they've made some awesome games. Hell, I adore the SNES and the handhelds, especially the 3DS. The games that they develop have solid mechanics despite them being "cutesy", and yeah, I have fallen out of love with most of their stuff, but that I can recognize. Never cared for Pikman though, and that's mainly because it just looks stupid. That's just me though. >.>

I shit on Nintendo for their business practices, and that's it.

Their games being too "kiddie" has nothing to do with it.

Then again, different strokes for different folks.

Okay, I'm going to completely and utterly blow your mind with a single sentence.

You ready for this?

You'd best sit down. If you can find some rope or something similar then I suggest lashing yourself into your chair.

Alright, brace yourself, here we go:

Different people find fun in different things.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT ON A STICK! DID YOU SEE THAT?!

Dude, seriously, your entire argument, if it can be called that, consists of "I enjoyed X, therefor X is immune from negative comment."

If you enjoy Nintendo games then great, go play some. I'm sure there will be plenty to enjoy. Nintendo is doing fine. They're not going anywhere. But if you're going to try and defend them from their detractors you might want to try, y'know, actually addressing their comments or countering them, not just saying, "Leave Brittany alone!"

Nintendo are one of the few gaming companies who put gameplay first and constantly try to innovate.

Sadly the rest of the AAA Publishers haven't really been trying for a few years to bring something new to the table.

Thankfully indies and Nintendo have been able to introduce new gaming mechanics and interesting spins on tired formulas.

It's hard for them since they have to support two hardware devices, hopefully their next project is hybrid of the two which will allow them to do a little better. Right now either you have a Wii U drought or you have a 3DS drought if both libraries were combined the system would be a whole lot better.

They should always be questioned about their decisions but I feel they are mostly making progress in that regard. Hopefully they figure out how to bring their hardware to the next generation by being a bit more happy to involve their fans in providing feedback about what is needed to be fixed.
Not the most forward thinking company in terms of business decisions but one of the few publishers that are able to constantly release games that work and innovate.

Compared to the broken messes that are released by other studios it's wonder how the hell a game like MK8/Splatoon/SSB worked flawlessly online considering the archaic features Nintendo's online system has.

What can I tell you man, I'm fed up with Nintendo's cutesy-wubby Teletubby style.
Aren't you equally tired of the whole "we spend 3 months designing the right blood splatter when you shoot the guys head off", I'm not saying violence is bad, but the fact so many will dismiss nintendos style as "childish" or "only for kids" is equally as childish as it suggests that you're judging your maturity by the age rating on the front of the box.

Or to put it another way, which film was more intellectually stimulating; Toy Story or the Human Centipede? Variety is the spice of life, don't cut out icecream from your diet.

Personally I enjoy a wide range of games, I've been playing pokemon quite a bit, but in the last month I've been getting the 100% completion in Sleeping dogs (ie the game where you can routinely jam a guys face into an ice chipper)

THAT SAID; I will totally agree Nintendo needs to sort out their relationship with lets players and other online media, they are missing out on so much advertising when they limit the usage of their IPs.

I don't even want to harp on Nintendo, but some of their decisions lately are appalling. I've chosen to ignore them, but the fact they've come down on let's players and how their walling of Mewtwo from Smash Brothers unless you get it on the 3DS and Wii U is being a complete dick!

And I don't see what you see in their new games. They look really average compared to what they used to make. Nothing I can see worth buying a console for anyway. I'm a big fan of Smash Brothers and even I found SSBU sub-par.

Mewtwo isn't walled off, it's free if you got both versions but paid DLC if you didn't. I understand the confusion though as most news stories were more "holy shit mewtwo" rather than instructions on the different ways mewtwo will be available.

But while we're on DLC, honestly Nintendo has been doing that pretty well. Fairly priced on games that it makes sense with and Jim Sterling even did a whole episode about how good the DLC in Hyrule Warriors was.

You monster, I did what you said and it still ended up bad. You'll be hearing from my lawyer soon enough.

OT: I love the games Nintendo have been bringing out, whether new IPs or a new game from existing franchises. That said, Nintendo has been doing a few things badly, the biggest one being Amiibo supply.

However, your argument is about games being fun, and while I find them fun, not everyone will. Their games are quite easy overall, with the only challenge coming from bonus levels in the Mario games. Some people want more of a challenge, and some might only mind Dark Souls minimal challenge fun. I like sitting back and blowing through a Kirby game, because to me it's fun to fight as a pink ball with little challenge. Others don't care for it.

It's the reason there's a split on WRPGs and JRPGs, there are elements people find enjoyable in one, but not in the other.

I hear ya man -- if it wasn't for Bloodborne and The Witcher 3, and the dozens of titles I feel like replaying on my PS3 and 360, I'd most definately be playing my Wii-U as well. Afterall, it has so many great games, that's why I'm currently not playing it.

Bullshit. The things I find fun are the only fun things. People playing that other crap are just poor deluded fools who have yet to discover the One True Fun.

Anyone who harps about the best graphics is an idiot that you can safely ignore. In the history of video games, the best graphics has never meant anything. It has always, always, always been about the games. It's why the Atari VCS outsold the Astrocade. It's why the NES outsold the Sega Master System. If you don't have the games, you're screwed.

I am a huge fan of Nintendo, I own both the 3DS and the Wii U and I am happy with both systems.

That said there are plenty of reasons to complain about Nintendo too. They need to stop their region locking policy. I have missed out on games that I really wanted because they weren't released in Europe and they were actively updating their console to prevent us form using third party solutions to circumvent region locks, even if this was ONLY for that purpose and could in no way be used for piracy.

Their online infrastructure is bad. They realized it before Microsoft that people want the console's store to display prices in an actual currency rather than points, they allow gifting of games (at least they did on the Wii, I haven't tested on the Wii U) which is great. They also let you choose between topping off your account with set amount of money and then use from that or to use available money in combination with paying only the required amount of a debit/credit card.

That said they still have the issue of software being tied to the console rather than having an account. They improved on this slightly with the joint account thing, but it's far from enough. I want to be able to retrieve my games if my 3DS is stolen or broken and the same for my Wii U.

As for Nintendo being lazy and only releasing the same games over again, that's false. They stick to the franchise, but there's generally an improvement or at least a change in their games. And if you look at the Wii there are more Call of Duty games released for it than Zelda games.

It's OK to not be interested in Nintendo games just like it's OK not to be interested in EA's games. It's another thing to say they're all crappy, lazy and uninspired, but I doubt people will ever see the difference. People will say a game is bad in any way possible and when confronted state that's just their opinion. Fanboys will attack people for saying that someone personally didn't like the game because the gameplay didn't appeal to them. However I have learned that expecting people to be reasonable is a bit too much. I'm not very good at that myself so I guess I am a hypocrite for even suggesting it.

Right. So, accepting that we all like different things, why do people feel the need to call out Nintendo for making stuff that clearly isn't aimed at them in the first place? If someone doesn't enjoy the 'Nintendo Aesthetic', why do they always seem to feel the need to tell that to every Nintendo supporter they come across? And often even when there aren't any Nintendo supporters- forum threads pop up with the OP going on about how they don't like the cartoony approach Nintendo takes[footnote]It really does seem like 95% of the "I don't like Nintendo" brigade's reasoning is "Nintendo makes games with more colours than brown, grey and muzzle-flash, and I'm so insecure about people perceiving me as immature that I'll publicly disown Nintendo." The remaining 5% of complaints are about the ridiculously low availability of Amiibo.[/footnote], like a crazy person shouting their opinions to the wind. Someone doesn't enjoy Nintendo? Fine. But it seems awfully pathetic that they need to tell people that they do, as if it's some kind of badge of honour. I don't wander over here and get up people for liking grimdark brown and grey shooters.

Captcha: 'heated debate' Hopefully not, but with such sensitive subject matter anything is possible.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
The creator program is one of the worst moves Ive seen any company do. It's the sort of thing I would expect from Ubisoft or Ea, or activison back in the day before the put a muzzle on kotec or whatever his name was.

This is the part where you admit to some really fucked up hobby, isn't it?

OT: Nintendo's content is fine, it's their inability to cope with a changing industry and market that's killing them. Seriously, they are still adding functionality to their platforms that their competitors already offered a decade ago. They really don't "get" the internet at all, it seems.
