Okay i know this may sound pedantic but its been annoying me a bit
The Prince of Persia review in escape to the movies finally prompted me to write this
cos of people complaining about how persians are portrayed in 300 making them look like....well idiots
I have a persian friend who thinks its downright racist

but my opinion is that 300 is told from the viewpoint of the spartans and of course they would tell the story like that
Its done all the time throught history and this is the battle seen through spartan eyes
told by the persians it might show the spartans as demons with regenerative powers or something
Im sorry if someone brought this up already or if were way past this....but i had to say it
It wasnt a rubbish portrayal of persians cos it wasnt a documentary, it was the story of the battle glorified by Dilios (David Wenham)

rant over
thank you

it's a panel-by-panel adaptation of a comic book.
frank miller thought that'd be cool, don't blame the movie creators.

same for the prince of persia movie with casting a white guy.

We are way past this as everybody seems to have passed over 300 and nobody really cares about it unless they use the "This is Sparta" joke.

300 (comic book) wasn't supposed to historically accurate.

Therefore, 300 (movie) wasn't going to be either.

Well, the thing is, it's based off a comic book, so expecting it to be realistic in any way is idiotic. If your friend thinks it's racist then he's just far too touchy and needs to get over it.

You mean he's Iranian?

Also, it had an ogre or w/e in it, it's not going to be accurate.

edit: Nvm you explained it:)

umm hate to break it to you but that battle really happened and the persians did get the ass kicking of the century. granted it wasn't anything like it was in the movie the athenians played a big part in it. plus the movie didn't make them seem stupid, just militarily inferior

Would you seriously want to label yourself "Iranian" in the current political climate? I know Egyptians who have been stigmatized in post 9/11 U.S.

OT: I think the movie made pretty much everyone look stupid. I would probably consider something like LOTR more racially charged than 300.

Funny... my cousin who is doing a project about the greeks just brought up the Spartans, prompting me to mention that 300's depiction of the persians was a little off. Then, I come and see this thread.

Old new though, right?

Look before i get another run down about the actual battle or the graphical novel
I better point out that i know both very well
as i said I spend a bit too much time with my military history

All i was saying is tht people shouldnt complain bout the look of persians in the movie
cos although based on a real event
being told from one sides viewpoint kinda distorts the picture a little
