So with the smashing success of the persona 3 remake, many felt this was inevitable. And they were right!

It's been a good decade + since I last touched p4, mad hype to go back into it.

Oh, nice. Hopefully they revert Shadow Yukiko to be more like the original than Golden; I think the changes made them insultingly easy and prevented a teachable moment. Other than that, I'm sure it'll be great.

Hope there's real dungeon this time rather than just boring random room.

But I gotta question why they don't just make P7 at this point. Like, they're rebuilding everything for this, no? How's that much different from just making a new one.

First they need to make Persona 6, which they are working on.

Yeah they put out a letter that talks about them moving to the future too. P6 is definitely coming.

Oh yeah? What was different? I've only played Golden so I'm not sure what they changed

Shadow Yukiko's Ice weakness in Golden was originally on her adds in OG 4, in which she had no elemental weakness to exploit. And while I did take multiple tries to win the first time I fought her, like I imagine a lot of people did and that's why they changed it, I'm of the opinion that giving her a weakness, making it easier to deal a lot of damage and keep her stunned with Dizzy, makes the fight easier than it needs to be while delaying the teaching of the lesson to the player that not every enemy (especially bosses) will have a straightforward weakness, requiring you to use other tactics like fighting defensively or using stat buffs to succeed.

I'll probably still play it even if they keep the nerf, but I do think that it ultimately detracts from the intended experience of the original fight, which I thought was fine as-is.

They probably are developing Persona 6. It's not like Atlus aren't big enough to have some B-level studio work on copying Persona 4 while their best creatives are working on something new. After all, it doesn't matter if a remake is spectacular or even better than the original, since it will sell based off of name and reputation alone.

I've never been overly interested in Persona 4. The setting being explicitly rural does interest me, but from all I see the cast seems a bit on the generic side. That said I got attached to the P3 cast more than I expected I would so maybe they'll surprise me.

I guess, although its strange that they have 2 team doing almost exactly the same type of game at once, you'd figure there was a ton of overlap. Even if its a remake, I imagine the scope would be broadly the same as a new game.

The setting isn't really rural, its more like suburb.

Main cast is fairly generic, but supporting character have a lot more diversity. I'd say its more interesting than P3 cast.

See, your issue is judging a book by its cover. The theme of p4 is truth, and the plot is literally a detective mystery. So obviously it involves a lot of people who are hiding their real selves and acts and are pretending to be normal on the outside, negating most chances of being visibly irregular. If you compare it to p3, the main cast and antagonists are a lot more varied. In p3 you basically have just two groups of foes, but in p4 each month there's a new "case" happening, kinda like what p5 would go on to do, so there's a lot more variety on display.

The main difference with p3 is that it's just not quite as dark. And it's pretty hard to be darker than a game whose theme is death.

It's definitely rural. But rural Japan, not America. Or what they call inaka, which is like the countryside in english. Even the town you live in is called inaba, it's almost literally in the name.

That's a coincidence. Inaba is (or was) a real place in Japan, and there's a fair bit of mythology surrounding it - which was used to create the fictional town in the game.

Also, the kanji are nothing alike:

Inaba (as used in the game): 稲羽
Inaka: 田舎

Homonym puns are exceedingly common in Japanese, even if the kanji isn't the same one.

Considering the historical and mythological weight that Inaba already carries and has carried for millennia, I would be genuinely surprised to learn from a firsthand source that they were stacking a cheap pun on top of that.

Well I hope they do something about how obnoxious Yosake was, I ended up hating him so much. There is a bit in his social link where he asks you to punch him, I did not hesitate.

And I hope they completely erase Teddy the Sex Pest, honestly, it was cringe at best and just creepy at all other times.

Mind you, if they alter anything too much, Atlas will have to deal with people whining about them being too woke.

It will probably be exactly how the old game was if we use p3R as a comparison point. That game's script was nearly identical. Though the English translation may differ, since the p3r english translation was accurate, unlike that of the original game back in the day. I remember people amazed by Yukari not being a biatch any more and I was confused cause I played p3 in Jp and she was always very nice and considerate, albeit selfish too. So maybe some of your issues would be fixed too by a more accurate translation.

Kuma wasn't really a sex pest for example, he was just discovering humanity and trying to fit in and ended up going over the line cause he lacked socialization. Kinda like Aigis sleeping in your room to look after you without realizing how it'd look to the outside world to have someone who is thought of as a girl spend the night in a boy's room.
