You cannot fight the fad, the fad is too strong. Hero team-based shooters, military shooters, whatever else shooters...the tides are bigger than those who try to resist, try to hide from the kiss don't you know don't you know you can't fight the fadlight whoaha oh no. But, tides are passing, and sometimes it is relaxing to just float about exploring all the potential nooks and crannies on a boat made of lazy metaphors before it all fades again to the ever enigmatic force of foreign gravity.

So why not embrace the opportunity and paint it into something that appeals to your own tastes? If you were given the task of making a Battle Royale game to profit off the unsuspecting unwashed masses, with no creative limitations beyond the main, yet expendable rules of the genre, and given infinite money and talent...what would it be?

I had an idea to start, but while typing it grew less interesting and lost faith in it ultimately. Then had 4 different ideas, then hit a wall of indecision and typed this instead. *Sigh*

If I have to be a greedy, vapid leech on the game industry simply to make a quick profit at the cost of the longterm health of the industry, there's only 1 IP worth sucking on.

My Little Pony.

Bronies will play anything with ponies, and Twitch streamers will play anything with Battle Royale in it. 3 classes: Earthpony have highest health, can build items and small buildings, fastest run on the ground, but only close range attacks. Unicorn have mid health and speed but can use magic to create barriers and throw magic balls. Pegasus are fastest in the air, but lowest health.

The whole thing will be a...snowball fight during Winter Wrap Up on Sweet Apple Acres. Naturally for customization you'll start with 10 basic colors, 2 body types, 2 hair cuts, and 10 cutie marks. The DLC will include 90 additional colors, sold 10 at a time, 8 new body types sold individually, 18 new hair sold 6 at a time, and maybe 40 new cutie marks sold in a single bundle for $9.99

Okay, so you take a sprawling map, and 100 players. You place them on the map. You throw some activities across the map. Some of them can be done by individuals, some require groups to band together. Activities respawn over time, allowing others a shot to take on the encounters. At this point.....oh....damnit!, my personalised battle royale has no battle royale in it. Shit.

Well, I guess I'll just let others enjoy the format, and do my own thing.

I'd probably make a rogue-like-Battle Royale, because why not.

I mean, are they not already? Single life, find what you can, let it shape your experience for that session, death ends a run irrevocably. Can pick up and play one game for the day, or 8 games as it suits, since each is self contained?

Probably more of some form of open world co-op games like saints row, crackdown, GTA, the crew.....but with more people.

You could have one of those activities randomly initiate a Battle Royale competition, where it suddenly starts a 5 second countdown warning to all plauers, with each second a magic balloon appears on every player, lightening their weight until the final second whereupon everybody shoots up into the air, dropping their gear, and their descent begins, essentially refreshing the player standing and giving everyone an equal start. ...?

Hey, business practices can be anything you want, as benevolent or sinister as desired. With infinite money comes no need to financially squeeze your player base. It can be a pure passion project, even if that passion is red hot greed or lusty deviant mindbending furry porn!

Let's get nuts. Or controversial at least.

Go straight up Battle Royale Act in this ************. Customize a schoolkid, have them dropped onto an island/prison complex/mega-mall/podunk small town/ random weapon starts, and watch the fun.

Have a single player mode as well, complete with cliques, love interests, game rigging, and randomized circumstances.

That should definitely have limb removal mechanics, perhaps poison and disease to deal with for funsies... all very graphic and disturbing it must be, no half measures, go all in. Ooh, dangerous wildlife too! Obviously this should be mature-rated; we wouldn't want any kids playing this and giving the US and Aussie media more ammunition now, would we? ;) Though my kid self would adore the chance and would find a way regardless of pesky adult rules.

Knock the 100 players part out and you've got Conan Exiles or Ark (though that has instanced bosses) there. The main differential would be looting instead of crafting your stuff (and you can raid the NPC camps/settlements in Conan for stuff, though you typically need to be a bit setup first).

Anyways, I'd like to see a Battle Royale with some sort of varied mechanics. The standard batch of guns and occasionally a bow is really kind of dull. Even one that focused on melee stuff (Dark Souls Royale lol? Though they'd need some balance work, and netcode work).

Other then that, the safe zone should move around, not just shrink. That'd push the A strategy of "Hide somewhere invisible for 20 minutes" that pervades the games out. MY other main quibble is that much of the time, your actual ability to survive an encounter is just arbitrary RNG. Don't get a good weapon in the first 5 minutes and you may as well run headfirst into the deathzone and save the time as those who got lucky rack up kills and further optimize their loadouts. The Culling (while pretty undercooked in general) did actually have the vending machines/airdrop call ins that encouraged a certain level of movement and engagement, while also keeping the higher tier stuff in those earned perks rather then sheer luck of stumbling on the random house.

Isn't it obvious? It's in the name.

A Battle Royale-themed Battle Royale game. You're all on an island, with certain segments of it becoming no-go areas one after the other. Everybody gets a backpack with a random weapon (or survival item). If more than one is left by the end of the time limit, nobody wins!

An Age of Sigmar Path to Glory/Warhammer 40k Throne of Skulls scenario. 100 Champions of the Chaos gods enter the arena, but only one champion and one god can reign supreme. But it's not just the other champions you need to worry about. These are daemon worlds after all, so one has to watch the environment after all. Of course, the gods aren't above....assisting their chosen champions if they can get away with it, with relics stashed around the arena and maybe the occasional daemon incursion to make things more interesting.

balancing player interactions and the environmental factors is probably a big ask, you don't want to make the environment more dangerous than other players, but you've got 4 different play styles to work with, and you can add various sub-styles cause there's bound to be plenty of times when you have champions of the same god facing off. The ephemeral nature of a daemon world means the map makers can go absolutely nuts with the map design (within reason, you do need something that 100 people can play on).
I didn't know how much I wanted this until right now

As generic as this sounds, I wouldn't mind a Hunger Games battle royale.

I don't care about the genre, but if you're going to make one, you may as well use a setting where there's in-universe precedent for it.

On the setting of a 40k themed Battle Royale, it could also totally be an arena in Commorragh. Everybody are just prisoners forced to fight for their survival and to the amusement of the Dark Eldar. Maybe there's a secret scenario where you can actually break free...

Eternal Crusade is just kinda there, running on fumes. When stuff gets added, it is largely insubstantial. A few skins here and there, a 'new' map which is just an old map slightly retooled and reskinned. It is still the same meh game it always was.
