I'm sure many of you have seen episode 25 of MLP:FiM by now... you know? The one in which Pinkie Pie becomes heavely confused and bemused after all her friends refused to partake to her latest partying extravaganza with really far-fetched excuses, only to grow more confused and paranoid by the minute until her twisted mind finally snaps and she goes on a killing spree.... well ok, that last part didn't happen, but I swear to Hasbro I wouldn't have been surprised if such an act would have actually occurred!
I mean, the entire episode masterfully depicts her slow descend into madness as the Fear of Rejection finds its way in her already confounding psyche, with her happy-go-lucky joyous expressions turning into creepy death glares that would make Freddy Krueger wish he could just wake up from the horryble nightmare.
The defyning moment of the episode comes when she reaches the (obviously wrong) conclusion that her friends had abandoned her, thus her mind finally snaps, her hair loses its tone and fell flat on her face and she starts role-playing a fake party with a bunch of lifeless objects as her guests... and she does their voices. Wow, just wow. I found this episode to be both endearing and terryfing in its own peculiar ways, it's really nothing that hasn't been done before, but it still manages to give us a more in depth knowledge of Pinky Pie's personality and the sheer darkness that inhabits her subconscious mind.
That got me thinking.
There are a lot of cartoon characters out there, from both nostalgic and modern-day shows, even from the most "child-friendly" programs, that seem a bit off... as if they could lose control at any given time and kill somebody, although, in actuality, they never do it (I would keep a close eye to Patrick the Starfish, I don't think he's just atrociously dumb. Also, I never trusted those Carebears... they just creep me out).
Can you point a character from your favourite cartoon and whatnot that only SEEM funny and/or innocent but that, in fact, could be harboring a much darker side?
