I would assume that most of us live in an area that has something that we think that people should see when they come to the city/state/general area.

When people come to the Portland area, I think that they have to go to Powells City of Books. Its one of if not the largest independent book stores in the US and possibly the world. You can find a lot of really cool books that you might not otherwise be able to find due to them being rare or out of print.

Also you should stop by Voodoo Donuts, they have a lot of strange donuts that taste awesome (They have a maple bacon bar, which is really good), as well as stopping by Burgerville and getting some really good burgers and milkshakes.

So what are the must see/experience in your area?

The Memphis area? Fuck if I know. There's nothing here. Well, Graceland, but that's in a crappy neighborhood. You can always visit me. I'm a state wonder...

When they come to Ottawa, be sure to check out the Byward Market and Parliament Hill. Or, they could hop the river and cruise around Gatineau, despite being a shithole.

Irvington, New York...

Well our town is named after Washington Irving since he lived here for most of his life, and set most of his stories in this area, so we have lots of stuff dedicated to him.

There's also the "Octagon House", a house shaped liked an octagon that I find very uninteresting.

I live on the middle of no-where in a desert in California so there isn't much around me until you move quiet a bit of a ways out.

Let's see what do people come to Erie to do........ hhhmmm this is a hard one oh wait I got it. It seems that we get a lot of Canadian tourists who come for the local mall that we have and to go to the Peninsula which has beaches, crappy beaches mind but they're better than nothing.

Edit: OH I forgot that we have an old ship known as the Bridge Niagra (if memory serves) and it is an old Civil war ship (I think, not too sure may be a Revolutionary war type ship) that is in good condition and you can tour it and every once in a while they take it out sailing.

If you're in Florida and you're not looking at the beaches, you're doing something wrong. Nobody lives in the swamps for a reason.

I would point them to the nearest highway because tourists are clearly lost if they come here. We have the Indy 500 and GenCon. That is it.

basically anywhere that isnt over a mountains. so anywhere between the mountains and the coast is all good. rainforst, beaches, rivers, bushwalks.

basically i would suggest people go to greenfields beach. it free and has a nice beach for swimming. like no big waves etc a bush walk that goes to another beach, plenty of picnic/bbq areas.

so depending on the whether is can be a pretty good day, swimming walking eating and playing cricket or something.

plus the beach actually has sand, not that rocky stuff i seem to see on tv for beaches in the UK and US

Hmm, cool places in Alabama. Definitely the Ave Maria Grotto in Cullman! Also, the space center in Huntsville (I got to see a Star Wars exhibit with props from the movie. AWESOME!)

Powell's is amazing! In Portland I'd also highly recommend the Waffle Window; sounds ridiculous but it is SO worth it.

As for my area of North Carolina, I'd recommend Körner's Folly, Bethabara Park, The Winston Cup Museum, the very first Krispy Kreme doughnut shop, the Shell Service Station, and the Wake Forest Museum of Anthropology.

Kennedy Space Center and Universal in Orlando are pretty cool. Took a trip to see the last Endeavor launch from Cocoa Beach, and other than the 'love bugs' it was a great trip.

When visiting Florida, there are a few things to keep in mind:

You go to the Keys for fishing. Beaches do not exist. You know those postcards of the seven mile bridge with the big beaches lining the shore? I challenge you to find me a beach in the keys that isn't a mass of broken shells and awful hole in the wall restaurants. You won't find one. That being said, you won't find a better fishing spot in the area, and you will leave home with enough seafood to last you a month if you eat food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Orlando may be a candidate for visitation, but it loses its charm very quickly. If you've been to Six Flags or Wild Adventures, you have surpassed the need to go anywhere in Orlando. However, you may want to go to Disney World, and to that I say "Why aren't you in California, where the Disney theme park is five times better?" That being said, Orlando features most of the crazy fun times that a thrill-seeking tourist will want to experience.

St. Augustine, while boasting historical significance, it's become a very tacky tourist attraction. Honestly, if I wanted to go on vacation to a massive shopping district, I'll go to New York City and at least catch a Broadway musical. That being said, if you can appreciate the historical significance, then you will be content with the landmarks you find. Also, I know I just riffed on the shops, but they've actually got some really cool shit. Flags from nearly every country, swords and airsoft guns, and all sorts of interesting hoopla. You'll also find a restaurant for nearly every style of cooking imaginable.

I live in western Tennessee...
In the middle of the bible belt...
Where the last interesting thing to happen was the breakup of pangea...
Well, there are the smoky mountains!
No, I'm not gonna lie, all that's here are dirt and trees.
Don't ever come here.
EVER!

In Utah there's nothing to do but ski and hike. If you're into that kind of stuff then it's a blast, if you're not an outdoor person then stay away.

I just remembered that everyone who comes this way should take a drive down the Columbia River Gorge. It is a beautiful drive with the waterfalls and the tree covered cliffs surrounding you and the mighty Columbia River splitting the states of Washington and Oregon. There are also a few really nice trails for those who enjoy hiking, like the Multnomah Falls Trail and Beacon Rock.
